I love spending time in our garden, just sitting on the grass and looking at my surroundings. There are so many colours and textures everywhere and I often find I am too busy to take the time to really look and see the miracle and perfection of nature. Today, after travelling out and about all over the place, taking the kids to scouts, buying chicken food, fetching a new school desk for Caiden to work on etc… I needed some time to just stop and be… so I retreated to the garden barefoot with camera in hand to capture some beauty. I find, when I connect with nature in this way, I always feel refreshed and full again, ready to continue with my day.
I haven’t posted much this week, everyone has flu except me and I really hope I don’t get it. I am making plenty of honey, lemon, ginger and Rooibos tea to sooth sore throats. Caiden and Kye are sleeping on the couches and the girls are in bed. Jen has lost her voice and has two speeches due for her school work that we need to submit to Brainline, one for today and one for Sunday, I’m not quite sure how that’s going to work yet though.
I have added a link to an Easter Egg pattern I designed a few years ago, it also includes a tutorial for the Magic Loop technique.
The test knit for my Seaglass Cowl is live on my Ravelry group today, just pop over there if you would like to knit the cowl and let me know in the thread. All the criteria for the knit have been added there too.
Have a great weekend.
Welcome to Creative Friday,
Please feel free to post your links to anything you have created and would like to share, it can be a recipe, sewing tutorial, knitting tutorial, felting, crochet, crafts, art, spinning, weaving, working with fibre, photography, poetry…etc…
I have added a Creative Friday button on the sidebar of my blog, please feel free to add it to your blog for Creative Friday and link it to http://www.naturalsuburbia.com/ so others can find this space and share their creativity too:)
1. I have started a Creative Friday Flickr Group where you can post your beautiful photos that you link to each Creative Friday. To join the group, please go here.
2. If you would be so kind as to link back to Natural Suburbia in your blog post that would be lovely:)
This is Jenna’s desk and as you can see it’s being occupied by Delilah. Her eyes are open but she is actually sleeping.
Not too much learning has been happening here this week, we have an awful flu sweeping through our home. Sally Fallon’s Nourishing Traditions Chicken Soup recipe has been heartily appreciated and is helping us through this time of illness. I really love her book, both the recipes and all the wonderful nutrition information that she shares too.
Our Charlie has recovered well after the nasty attack from a stray cat a few weeks ago. His stitches have healed and his fur has almost all grown back. Isn’t this just the height of comfort? I love the way he stretches himself out and lies in the most uncomfortable looking positions, he does tend to sleep in the strangest places ie across the tops of books on a bookcase etc… He is terribly sweet:)
The house is very quiet this weekend, our 3 older children are attending a pirate Sea Scout camp, they will be coming home tomorrow. Kye is here with us, it’s strange not having everyone at home, this mama is looking forward to their return. They are growing up so fast, teenagers, finding their independence. It’s a new chapter as a mother, I feel I want to keep them close but know I have to let go little by little and allow them to find their way, gently guiding them from the sidelines.
Our chicken coop needs mending, we have a smaller coop for the younger girls and the heavy rains have damaged it. We have tried to get our new chickens to join the older girls in the large wooden coop but the older chickens really hurt them, I know they are supposed to eventually co-exist after some henpecking but they have never managed to get it right. They are happy enough to all be out together but as soon as they are put inside the enclosure the fighting starts and the younger ones get hurt. We keep them separate now in the evenings and they are only out together in the day, this seems to work. It’s a bit hectic having two coops though and I really hope we can have them living together soon.
Have a lovely weekend…
PS I just wanted to let you know, that if you want to print out patterns from my blog to knit them up, there is a really nice gadget at the end of each post. It’s there with all the social media icons and looks like a green leaf. If you click on that it will only print what you choose to print instead of the whole post with photos etc… 🙂
