Our Journey

Learning Room

This is our learning room, I love this space. I’m finally getting some order in here. Previously, there were books everywhere and I could never find anything. There is nothing more frustrating, when you are looking for a specific book and it’s nowhere to be found! Ever experienced that before? We have also bought desks for each child to work at, we tried having everyone at one large table but that didn’t work at all. These desks were a lucky find at my favourite local thrift shop, they have a history and have been crafted from sold Kiaat and Oak wood, I just adore them…

Hockey

Caiden and Kye will be starting hockey this Saturday, it’s the beginning of the winter sport season here in South Africa. They are so excited, today we went out to buy sticks, shin guards and gum guards etc… They are really looking forward to it. I’m happy they are taking up a new sport, Kye is also learning to swim, we go once a week for lessons and he loves it!

Hello!!

Garden

As I’m writing this post, the rain is pouring down outside, it’s a welcome relief from the rather sweltering heat that we’ve been experiencing over the last few days. I must also just say that directly above my head where I’m sitting writing this post, a rat has passed away in the ceiling. We cannot reach this rat as there is too much insulation in the way and he’s too far away from a trapdoor. As you can imagine, the smell is in here is RIPE! As soon as I’m finished writing, I am going outside for fresh air.

Guitar

Erin has recently started playing guitar again, she loves it and writes the most beautiful songs.

The last few weeks have been a little crazy, I’ve been rushing from one thing to the next. Jenna’s school assignments have been all encompassing. She has managed to complete almost all of them and only has a couple left, thank goodness. Even though she has been under extreme pressure to finish her tasks by a certain date, I can see that she feels a tremendous amount of pride in the completion of her work. I can also see that she will cope well in the future to finish work within a certain time period and I feel that this is a great accomplishment.

Homeschooling is lovely but the higher grades are not for the feint-hearted, especially when you know that there is a portfolio that needs to be completed over 3 years and a final grade 12 exam to be written. After today, I can see that Jen is going to be just fine with her Afrikaans too, she is learning to translate it and work through comprehensions and grammar etc… This is a huge relief for me because languages can be tricky to learn at times.

Today we are past the bulk of her assignment work, they have been uploaded and I just wanted to find a little time for me, so I went out into the garden and sat with the chickens. Can you believe two of our Koekoek chickens were trying to sit on my lap at the same time, I have the scratches to prove it:) It was lovely to just be and experience the now outside, looking around and experiencing my surroundings. Often I am thinking so far ahead of what needs to be done, that I forget to see where I am. I am going to make a concerted effort everyday to be in the moment and really feel it so that I can give myself some support and grounding within our busy family of 6… Is there anything that you do during the day to help keep you centred and energised amongst the busyness of family life?

Happenings…

Knitted Giraffe

This morning started with a long walk down to our pan and back home again with my mom, I really enjoy spending this time with her, it gives us a chance to chat and exercise and see the beautiful water birds that inhabit our area. I must take my camera with next time it’s so lovely out there. I’ve been working on a few custom orders over the last few weeks, an Ellie, Giraffe and a rainbow Horse. I’m almost ready to send them off…

Kye being Invested

Last night our little Kye was invested into his cub pack, oh my the excitement of it all. I’m so proud of him, just look how his face lights up as his Arkela pins his new badges onto his shirt. It was an equally special day because it was his birthday and he shares the same birthday with the founder of the scout movement, Robert Baden-Powell.

Kye Cubs

You must excuse the not-too-wonderful photo but this mama was a little overcome with joy and happiness seeing the youngest of her brood standing up there and being so proud to be a part of it all…

Wishing you a lovely weekend.

Creative Friday

Kye 7

Our sweet Kye is 7 years old today! We awoke early before 6 am this morning, there was great excitement in the house. Kye has been counting down the days on his birthday calender that Caiden made for him. We each gave this special boy 7 kisses when he woke, it’s time to ice birthday cakes and embark on a wonderful day.

We love you dear one….
