Waiting

Guess I’ll have to just wait and see…

Bed

We’ve dug a new bed near the kitchen door, I’m going to plant veggies and flowers in it. I want to utilize as much space as possible for growing our own vegetables. I’ve spoken to the kids about how I want to work in the garden and try to have a continuous supply of food, they seem keen to help. Yay!

Camping

Richard and Kye have set up a little camp site in the back garden, Kye’s been wanting to camp in the garden for ages, he’s SO excited it’s happening!

Green and Red Peppers

These are a few treasures from the garden. I really LOVE peppers and they’re so easy to grow.

Just a Little Guava

Guava

I was so excited to see that the little guava tree I bought over a year ago has started to bear fruit! When I was young, I lived in Port Elizabeth near the sea, we had a beautiful garden with two huge guava trees. All those memories from my childhood come flooding back just by seeing this tiny fruit starting to grow. We used to pick as many guavas as we could eating them right off the tree. My granny used to stew them and we’d eat them with homemade custard. So delicious! Our winters are quite cold here, so I’m really hoping this tree will survive, I thought planting the tree in a pot for now would be best and next summer we can transplant it into the ground.

Today has been a full day, Jenna and Erin wrote the last of their tests, their friends came over, Kye went to his swimming lesson, I managed to pop out to the health shop, came home and later fetched the girls from their science class. I can’t wait to sit down and knit a few rows on my knitting… It’s been a good day!

Hope your Monday is happy and productive.

In the Garden

Squash1

A lovely weekend has passed, we rode our bikes and spent time with our friends. Jen wrote her physical science test today and she seemed to be quite happy with it. Erin started crocheting again this weekend and has made the cutest headband but I’ll share more about that in another post. We did sit together in the sun today, she was crocheting and I was knitting, it was really lovely to spend time together and just chat.

These are a few of the harvested Souties squash that we’ve grown this year. The smaller ones are very tasty but the large ones are basically empty and have hardly any flesh inside unfortunately. Oh well…

Our sweet Delilah never misses an opportunity to come outside with us to see what’s happening in the garden.

Mielies

Our mielies are mostly finished too, so Caiden was pulling out all the dead stalks. I really love it when the children join me in the veggie garden.

Lizzard

I also had a tiny visitor in my kitchen yesterday….

I have a lovely link to share with you, it’s a cover of the song Say Something, here it’s being sung by Pentatonix, so beautiful and the only musical instrument they’ve used is a cello!

Happy St Patrick’s Day♥
