I was really hoping to put this post up earlier today when the sun was higher in the sky for me to take better photos. As I cast off my shawl, I kept noticing the light becoming less and less. Today has been a day of driving, shopping, taking Erin to the chiropractor, then back home to fetch Caiden and Kye to go to a friend’s house and then back to fetch the girls to take them to see their friend’s matric farewell dress as she walked into her farewell, the dresses were amazing! Phew, I’m out of breath just thinking about my day but it was good. I did manage to finish my Oaklet Shawl, knitting a few rows here and there, whenever I got the chance. I was hoping to block it but I ran out of time and that will have to wait for tomorrow.
I have decided that this shawl is going to be a gift for a very special friend, I hope she likes it. Even though we have been having a postal strike here for the past 2 months or so, (can you believe that??) I actually received some parcels in the post yesterday!! Oh my, how wonderful, it was yarn, the best parcel to receive, no?! The skein on the left is from Hartlam, I won it in a competition and I love it! The skein on the right is a kit I ordered from Nurturing Fibres to knit this Dragons’ Hope Shawl designed by Sally Cameron. I can’t wait to start.
It’s late here now, I’m so happy to be home, all I want to do is have a long bath, read everyone a story and sit and knit and do nothing else for at least an hour.
Joining Ginny’s Yarn Along🙂

Love the colors in the shawl. Would love to see the whole shawl. The new yarn is wonderful.
Your Oaklet turned out beautiful!
Looking forward to seeing it blocked – the colours look lovely!
I’ve just cast off on a shawl for my mother and really need to get it blocked (no photos for the Yarn Along) – a little late for mother’s day, but a certain little girl keeps pulling off stitches or eating yarn – this I do have a photo of 🙂
Your oaklet shawl is beautiful Linda, what a lucky friend you have!
Enjoy your evening, sounds like you have had a very busy day.
the shawl looks amazing. and yes, yarn mail is the best!
I hope you had a chance to sit and read and knit. I know that feeling at the end of a long day!
Linda, your shawl is beautiful. I am considering this pattern for some 100% yak yarn, all solid colors but on sale. I have one question – your shawl has a rounded bottom whereas the pattern and others pictured on Ravelry show a pointed, triangular shape. How did you change the pattern to get the more crescent shaped shawl.
Hi Barbara,
Thank you so much! I still need to block it and then it should be pointed:)
‘Oaklet’ for some reason I think of fall, but your spring version is wonderful.
oh you poor thing, i hope you had that time so needed, i do remember those days well! your shawl is so pretty, happy gentle colors. and your yarns are so beautiful too, have fun planning and casting on. xoxo
I love your shawl; the colors are very beautiful. I hope you enjoy your autumn–I am looking forward as spring is coming–although is snowing today so we shall see.
Ohh I love that green yarn so pretty. Nice to meet you through the yarn along!
Full, busy days! The shawl really looks beautiful Linda. The colours are so gentle and happy. Your post yarn looks great. Still haven’t found any wool here so will probably be in touch in a month or two to chat about the possibility of sourcing some through you. Love to you
Lovely colorway. Lovely, lovely lace.
Those yarns and amazing!
