Books

Real Meal Revolution

I’m almost finished the cowl I’ve been working on, I love this yarn, and the colour. It’s a nice easy pattern and once you get into the rhythm, it becomes a wonderful meditation, repeating round after round, producing a lovely textured piece. I can’t wait to put this up on the test knit group. My flu is almost gone, thank goodness and now I can get back to focussing on my knitting. Oh yes, before I forget, the yarn is from Nurturing Fibres, it’s called Moulin Rouge, double knit singles.  I think the name and the colour compliment one another well.

I’ve been reading aloud to Kye from these books above, they were my readers when I was in primary school. Does anyone remember these books?? They are so sweet. How can it be so long ago already?

I’m reading Real Meal Revolution again, it’s very interesting and informative. I want to improve the general health of our family. We’ve all been really ill lately and I do feel strongly that the food we eat has a direct impact on overall health.

Joining with Ginny today.

Saturday Morning

Feeding the Birds

Charlie1  Feeding the Birds1

I’ve been feeding the birds more regularly now that it’s Winter, as soon as I go outside with  seed and fruit, they appear out of nowhere and wait patiently for me to finish filling the feeders. As soon as I leave they descend and the feasting begins!

Avo

Both of these plants, an Avo on the right and a Lemon in the black pot self-seeded and are growing well! I love it when nature does this, takes things into her own hands and creates something wonderful! We tend to throw avo pips out of our kitchen window as we cut them open, and amazingly enough, they just start growing!

Sprinkler

Lemons1

Our borehole is supplying us with copious amounts of water, we haven’t had rain since April so this underground water is such a blessing.

Sandy

Our Sandy is always hoping that someone will walk by and throw her ball. She brings it to us, drops it on the ground, picks it up again as if to say, “Come on, just one more time, please!”

Charlie2

Charlie, resting against a pumpkin amongst the Rosemary bush in the kitchen windowbox. He will eventually saunter back into our house, smelling of wonderful oils…

Rusks

Here is the result of the baking from the other day, the Banting rusks, they are lovely and SO filling!

Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

Charlie2

I feel so awful right now, I’m full of flu. I thought I’d escaped unscathed. Jen, Kye and Cady have been very ill over the past week. They are feeling much better but as for me, I think I’m going to crawl into bed sometime soon…. We went to our homoeopath and he gave us a wonderful herbal concoction that looks and smells rather like pond water. Well… this pond water has tremendous healing properties, Jen was feeling SO much better after taking it for a few hours and even managed to write her Life Science exam the following day. I’m bravely taking it now, it does taste dreadful but it’s worth it.

We’ve been busy for 3 weeks with June exams, they are all finished now and the kids went to movies this morning to see How to Train Your Dragon 2 to celebrate! It’s holidays!! I had some ‘me’ time this morning, I knitted on my cowl a little and then made these divine looking LC banting rusks I’ve been reading so much about. They’re still in the oven drying out, the recipe is on the Banting for Healthy Living Facebook page, they have the most wonderful recipes over there and they’re always having great discussions about LCHF too.

Yesterday, our teacher did some ink and bleach painting with the kids, they painted with the ink first and then added a tiny amount of bleach to the wet ink. The result was amazing, the bleach obviously changed and removed the colour from the ink where it fell and rendered very pretty effects indeed. They also added a dusting of salt to the wet ink, waited for it to dry and then brushed it off. I searched for ink and bleach painting on Pinterest if you would like to see some interesting art.

It’s been exceptionally cold here, that’s Charlie above trying to warm up on the kitchen couch.

I’ve started reading the Little House series to Kye, he loves it! I read these books to his older siblings when they were about his age and they enjoyed them too.

Tomorrow is Friday!! Yeah!!

Portrait Saturday

Frozen birdbath

We are experiencing freezing weather at the moment! Last night was SO incredibly cold, we had to have two fires going in an attempt to warm up our home. When we woke up this morning, our water pipes were frozen and the water in the bird baths was solid too. We saw one of our bunnies trying to drink but she was just licking the solid ice. I do hope this is just a passing cold front, I sincerely hope the temperature goes up tomorrow, brrrrrr….

Have a lovely Saturday!

If you have a portrait you’d like to share, please link to your post in the comments.
