Knitting the Color Affection Shawl…

I have been wanting to knit something special ever since I finished my Circumnavigate Cowl and when I saw my friend Rene’s Color Affection Shawl on her Facebook page, I knew this was the project I had been waiting for. I love this shawl because it is a larger than other shawls, an item you can wrap right around yourself and keep warm while going for late afternoon walks (something my mom and I have started doing).

I wanted it to be a luxurious shawl so I scratched through my hand spun stash until I found what I was looking for, an alpaca and merino single spun skein, I bought the roving from here. It is a little bright, but I really think it will knit up into a lovely item. I am alternating the alpaca merino yarn with a solid but slightly variegated kid mohair green (softness….). I love this green, it reminds me of algae, a real pond green, is juxtaposes beautifully next to the purples and teals of the hand spun…

I am busy with my second section of colour repeats and I literally can’t put it down!

Our Wisteria is in full bloom down the one side of our home where our bedrooms are. The scent is absolutely wonderful and the business of the bees and bumble bees is lovely to watch as they continually visit each flower…

Wishing you all a lovely week…

PS Thank you so much for all your birthday wishes last Friday, I had the best birthday weekend ever! (I definitely do believe that 40th birthdays should last the entire weekend, don’t you?)  I received amazing gifts, spent time with family and friends and went to dinner with old friends on Saturday night, it was just superb!

Your shawl looks very soft and cosy, and makes me think I should sometimes use better quality wool. Your wisteria pictures are lovely. It seems very strange seeing spring, when autumn is beginning here.

Every time I’ve seen this pattern I’ve thought: booooring! (likely because everyone and their sister has been knitting it at the local yarn store I frequent) But yours! Ah! It’s gorgeous! Way to go for not using all single color yarns! I love the different stripes and the texture. I’m not brave enough to knit with fuzzy textured yarns – I can’t seem to find my stitches.
