October Already?!

Hello! Can you believe it’s October already? The year has flown by… one day seems to flow into the next and before we know it, it’ll be Christmas!

So much has been happening since I last wrote here, our children are growing up into young adults, Jen is 21 now, Erin 19, Caid 17 and our little one Kye is 12 🙂 I miss those days when they were all still so small and we’d pile into the car and go on adventures together.

They have grown into the most amazing people and we still have adventures, sometimes. I really do try to be present each day to appreciate this time I have with them. I remember, not long ago, a mom was writing about her child going off to university and how we should appreciate and ‘be’ in the moment with our children, as time is fleeting and just races by, often without us noticing.

Here we are, my girls have gone off to university already but they still live at home as their uni is close, so I’m grateful for that.

Well, as October marches on, some news from my side of the world:

Rich and I have been riding again. I really need to do this more often!

Bailey and Sandy are such wonderful pets. Bailey keeps Sandy young at heart and seems to also have kept Sandy’s epilepsy at bay for now. She’s much more active with Bailey around and I think this helps.

Last month was my birthday month, Rich was overseas and sent me this lovely bouquet of flowers 🙂

My little shadow, Delilah, she loves following me when I go to feed the chickens.

We also had a magnificent eclipse recently. It was freezing outside but so worth it!

Caid and Kye painted Proteas aren’t they gorgeous?

We still have our beautiful feathered girls and they gift us with the best eggs, daily ♥

Christmas Ornament Swap:

Is anyone interested in participating in a Christmas Ornament Swap?

Susan wrote to me to ask if there would be one this year.

If you are keen, please post in the comments and I will write a post about it if we have enough people 🙂

Enjoy the rest of your week ♥

MTB Ride and ‘Me’ Time

Cosmos Path

Fields

Richard Cosmos

Horse

Windmill

Rich and I went on a lovely MTB ride last weekend, we rode about 32km through the plots and farms around Benoni and stopped briefly for a short rest at a nearby coffee shop. I’m getting used to my cleats now and can unclip them when necessary, they still scare me a little but it gets better with each ride.

The Cosmos flowers are always in bloom around Easter time here and they give a gorgeous show of colour. We also came across this sweet horse grazing in a field and then spotted a windmill, I just had to stop and take  photos. I know I should be riding more and taking less pics but there are so many beautiful things to see and I have to stop and capture them.

Mountain biking is really a wonderful sport, I used to ride horses when I was younger and loved riding out in the open, this is very similar, except, of course, I’m on a bike but I’m out in the open again and it’s just lovely! It’s also ‘me’ time and I’m glad that I’m allowing myself a few moments to recharge.

Hope you’re having a great week and that you’ve managed to have some time to yourself.

Dunblane March Hare, MTB Race

Rich and I

Yesterday, Richard and I rode in the Dunblane March Hare MTB race. It’s my first official long race and I’m really glad I entered.

Changing a tyre

Sadly I had a puncture right near the end of the race but Richard was there to help me get going again.

Clogged bike March Hare

When we rode up through the mielie (corn) fields and encountered large patches of mud, my bike got so clogged up that the back wheel wouldn’t even turn! I found a stick and tried to remove as much as I could…

I finished the 40km race and was happy to just sit and not move for a while. What an amazing experience and thank you to my hubby Richard for all his encouragement and patience:)

MTB with Rich

Rich

On Saturday, Rich and I went venturing off into the plots along the single track and open areas on our mountain bikes. It was an overcast day, which was perfect for riding. We stopped off to have breakfast at a quaint restaurant along the way.

Cat

There were resident cats and chickens walking around, sweet little creatures.

Shoes

I have finally started wearing riding shoes with cleats, quite a daunting experience but I have only fallen off once because I needed to avoid a car and forgot that my right foot was cleated in! Other than that I really love them, they help to pull me up the uphills, if that makes any sense:)

Meadow

We rode through this beautiful meadow. We saw plenty of guinea fowl and small birds flying around, it was lovely. I managed to ride 33km on Saturday, (never thought I could ride that far, so yay!!)

Hope you’re having a wonderful week…
