Knitting and Cycling etc…

Hello friends, it’s been a long while since I popped in here to share about our life! It’s good to be writing again 🙂  Winter is finally over, it wasn’t as cold as we anticipated and we only lit a handful of fires, Spring made a brief appearance and then Summer took over. We’re still waiting patiently for the rains to come, it’s incredibly dry, our garden really needs water. Rain is forecast for this entire weekend so here’s hoping it happens. Our chickens have also finished their yearly molt and we are being blessed with many eggs daily.

We have also moved all of our chickens into the wooden house, there were two separate houses but we’ve removed the smaller one and now they all live together.

I’ve been busy knitting a couple of custom orders for rabbits and alpacas 🙂 The pattern for the large Alpaca can be found in my Craftsy shop.

Bailey is such a blessing, she is so sweet and has a lovely nature… We’ve had to visit the vet twice this week but she is much better now.

I’ve started mountain biking more with Richard, this was the Transvaal Galvanisers race we did together to raise funds for The Apricot Tree school. It was a chilly morning but lots of fun!

Love the sunsets while we are out riding.

Erin went with her boyfriend to his Matric Farewell recently, don’t they look wonderful! Her dress was made by Benita Colete, she is amazing!!

And one more photo of Bailey…

Have a wonderful weekend!

MTB Ride and ‘Me’ Time

Cosmos Path

Horse

Windmill

Rich and I went on a lovely MTB ride last weekend, we rode about 32km through the plots and farms around Benoni and stopped briefly for a short rest at a nearby coffee shop. I’m getting used to my cleats now and can unclip them when necessary, they still scare me a little but it gets better with each ride.

The Cosmos flowers are always in bloom around Easter time here and they give a gorgeous show of colour. We also came across this sweet horse grazing in a field and then spotted a windmill, I just had to stop and take  photos. I know I should be riding more and taking less pics but there are so many beautiful things to see and I have to stop and capture them.

Mountain biking is really a wonderful sport, I used to ride horses when I was younger and loved riding out in the open, this is very similar, except, of course, I’m on a bike but I’m out in the open again and it’s just lovely! It’s also ‘me’ time and I’m glad that I’m allowing myself a few moments to recharge.

Hope you’re having a great week and that you’ve managed to have some time to yourself.

Knitting and Mountain Biking

We had a beautiful ride this morning, left home at 7am travelled to a nearby shopping centre to park our car and then off we went riding our bikes. It was wonderful to be out in the open, so many birds singing, butterflies flying around settling onto the fresh mud on the orange clay roads. We even spotted a tiny Mongoose scurrying across the track into the thick grass. It felt so good to experience nature like this and of course my love was there with me, so we had a few hours of quality time spent together.

My back feels much better today, we rode 25.5km and it was fine, I was a little tired but I’m sure I’ll be able to manage the 30km ride next weekend, we’ve entered the Serengeti Classic MTB race it’s our first race together and I’m looking forward to it! 🙂

We stopped for a water break and while we were standing looking around at the scenery, we spotted an eagle circling near this Bluegum tree, can you see him to the left of the tree? I only had my phone camera to work with and I kept stopping to take photos, there were just so many photos I would have loved to take, the Cosmos flowers in bloom and the Red Bishops’ flying ahead of us on the path. A whole flock of them would settle a few metres away on the tracks, we would ride closer and then they would all fly up and once again settle a few metres further away…

As we crossed the main road and rode onto a thin path bordered with thick, long grass, we discovered these tombstones, there were so many of them, overgrown graves lost forever, most of the people were born in the 1880s.

Today has been a boiling hot day! Richard and I got up early, drove to Modderfontien Bike Park and spent the next two hours riding around a mountain bike loop. At one stage his Garmin was giving temperature readings of 37 degrees Celsius! The ride was great but the hills were a killer, I actually felt like I was going to pass out on one of the steep hills, so I got off my bike and walked up instead. It was a great experience though, Richard was so patient and encouraging, which was wonderful. We rode 16km of hills and winding paths! I can now see why people fall in love with this sport, it’s really fantastic.

We had a lovely light lunch afterwards and then drove home, its been such a relaxing day otherwise and then tonight we had a family braai. Shew, I’m going to sleep well tonight:) Our veg garden is overflowing with produce, I need to get in there and do some weeding someday soon.

PS I’ve also just cast on for a new design for a Panda.

Have a lovely weekend xx
