Happy Birthday to our sweet boy, Caiden!
There was so much excitement here this morning, as you can imagine, he has been counting down the days for months! I think we all got up at 6:45 am and made our way to the birthday table prepared in the front lounge. I love preparing the birthday table, it has been a family tradition for quite a few years now. I got the idea from this lovely book called The Birthday Book, a Waldorf inspired book, full of birthday goodness. I also made felt crowns for our children a few years ago and these little traditions have such great meaning to all of us. The night before each birthday I read a sweet poem from that lovely book and even though they are all getting older, they still love to have their poem read to them by myself and have that special table waiting for them each birthday morning…
The birthday cake has been baked and is cooling in the kitchen…
We wish you all the love and happiness in the world dear Cady,
Love from all of us.

Eleven is SUCH a good year. Dear C – may it bring you strength and delight – discovery and gratitude. You aren’t an adult yet – and be glad of it. Play and run and shout and climb and jump in the pool with your feet tucked way up under you and your hair flying. Don’t be in a hurry. DO look around you – at the yard, the house, your parents’ faces, your sisters’ too – and for a minute, freeze time before it goes any further. See that you live in a garden – literally and spiritually – that you are surrounded by love and safety and imagination and delight. See that you have guardian angels who have given you such beauty and freedom and wisdom as few children ever see in a lifetime. Kiss them. Kiss them all a million times. Run out, turn your face to the sun and shout as loud as you can, “THANK YOU. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MY LIFE.”
And that will be my present to you.
Belated Happy Birthday to him! 🙂
I just watched a wonderful film filled with eleven year olds from all over the world. If you get a chance to see it then do. I went to a screening the other night with my 10 year old and she loved it. The theatre was filled with eleven year olds. It’s called ‘I Am Eleven’ http://iameleven.com/
I love the birthday book. The children in my daughters class make one for each child, either doing a drawing or writing something.
