October Already?!

Hello! Can you believe it’s October already? The year has flown by… one day seems to flow into the next and before we know it, it’ll be Christmas!

So much has been happening since I last wrote here, our children are growing up into young adults, Jen is 21 now, Erin 19, Caid 17 and our little one Kye is 12 🙂 I miss those days when they were all still so small and we’d pile into the car and go on adventures together.

They have grown into the most amazing people and we still have adventures, sometimes. I really do try to be present each day to appreciate this time I have with them. I remember, not long ago, a mom was writing about her child going off to university and how we should appreciate and ‘be’ in the moment with our children, as time is fleeting and just races by, often without us noticing.

Here we are, my girls have gone off to university already but they still live at home as their uni is close, so I’m grateful for that.

Well, as October marches on, some news from my side of the world:

Rich and I have been riding again. I really need to do this more often!

Bailey and Sandy are such wonderful pets. Bailey keeps Sandy young at heart and seems to also have kept Sandy’s epilepsy at bay for now. She’s much more active with Bailey around and I think this helps.

Last month was my birthday month, Rich was overseas and sent me this lovely bouquet of flowers 🙂

My little shadow, Delilah, she loves following me when I go to feed the chickens.

We also had a magnificent eclipse recently. It was freezing outside but so worth it!

Caid and Kye painted Proteas aren’t they gorgeous?

We still have our beautiful feathered girls and they gift us with the best eggs, daily ♥

Christmas Ornament Swap:

Is anyone interested in participating in a Christmas Ornament Swap?

Susan wrote to me to ask if there would be one this year.

If you are keen, please post in the comments and I will write a post about it if we have enough people 🙂

Enjoy the rest of your week ♥

Henrietta

Hello,

I’ve been knitting up a storm and have really loved designing Henrietta the Hedgehog, we will have a test knit of the pattern soon on my Ravelry group.

Petria

Our Spring garden is bursting with beauty and the most gorgeous variations of the colour green. I just love it!! Above is the beautiful Petria creeper in full bloom, takes my breath away…

Eggs

A few eggs collected from our chickens yesterday, some are brown, some are white, others cream and of course slightly speckled.

Delilah

Here is our precious girl Delilah lying on the couch in our bedroom this morning on her favourite blanket…

Today I am grateful for:

My family, helpful people, friends, our health, our beautiful pets, clean running water and food to eat each day. What are you grateful for today?

Hope your weekend is just lovely…

Portrait Saturday, Chickens

Chickens5

Our chickens are growing up fast and will soon start laying eggs, most of the older ones are moulting so we are experiencing a bit of a dry season as far as eggs are going. I’ve had to buy free range eggs from the shop but they aren’t anything like the eggs our girls lay. Two of the younger ones have had slight colds but they are improving each day. Winter is approaching fast here, the mornings and evenings are COLD, its’ so strange how chickens start moulting just as the temperature starts dropping. At least they’ll have their feathers by the time winter’s in full swing.

We also gave them a huge new pile of straw today, they love it, scratching around finding all sorts of bugs. We just put the bale in the middle of their pen, they climb on top of it and scratch and spread it out all over the place. I really do believe they rather enjoy doing that.

Hope you’re having a wonderful Saturday, I’m busy transferring all of Jenna’s scout badges from her old shirt to her new one, (there are a LOT of badges:)

See you soon…

Chickens!

Old Girls

Our old girls watching the new arrivals.

Chicks

On Saturday we went to buy our new chickens, they are all SO sweet and gentle. They’re about 4 months old and should start laying in 2 months time. We got 4 Koek-Koeks, 2 Australorps, 4 Sussex and 2 Lavender Ancona chickens. We were meant to buy 10 but ended up with 12, there were just so many different breeds, I couldn’t resist!

Hens

They are all very relaxed, I was dreading introducing them to our older girls but there has been no fighting or ‘hen-pecking’ so far. In previous years we had to separate them but it’s been wonderful this time.

We love sitting and watching them walk around and scratch in the sand…

I’m off to make a cup of tea and then I’ll spend the rest of the afternoon with them.

Makes me happy:)
