Portrait Saturday

Portrait Saturday1

We are having a lovely Saturday afternoon, Jenna and Erin have just returned from a bike ride, Richard has lit the braai (barbecue) and we are playing an exciting game of Uno. If you haven’t played this card game before, I can seriously recommend it, such fun!!!

Both of our sweet cats, Charlie and Delilah, are not too well at the moment. Charlie was attacked by a stray cat a few days ago, it was a vicious attack. Yesterday he had a lengthy surgery. He is home now with over 25 stitches and has 2 drains in his back. The poor boy is very uncomfortable and angry. We have attached mesh fencing to our front gate to try and keep this cat out, I hope it works. Our little Delilah has cat ‘snuffles’ and will be better soon.

I hope you are having a wonderful weekend:)

Digging up Gold

Can you believe how big Kye’s beans have grown? These are the beans we grew in the egg boxes:)

What an amazing day of harvesting we have had! I have dirt under my nails from digging up potatoes and I love it! This morning I walked out into our veg patch and wondered about wheather our potatoes would be ready to be pulled up. Erin joined me and she pulled out the first plant, wow! It was laden with beautiful potatoes! Our pot potatoes are still young and growing but these were planted a few months ago. These ones are out of our raised beds and it’s the first time we have had such a good crop.

We all got stuck in and dug up the plants, Erin washed and put the potatoes out to dry. We also pulled up  onions and leeks that were ready and we even got a few garlic bulbs too. We are going to compost the beds tomorrow and plan what we will plant in them next.

I would really love to find out if there are any South African’s who would like to swap seeds or seed potato varieties, we only seem to have a few seed potato varieties available here and I would love to hear from you if you would like to swap locally. Alas, we can’t swap with anyone from overseas because of our customs control but if anyone local has different or rare varieties of seeds and potatoes that they would like to swap, please let me know:)

Advent

This is our simple little Advent wreath with the first candle lit for the first week of Advent. We are celebrating the kingdom of the stones and shells. Kye being the youngest, lights the first candle each night before we eat supper. Tomorrow we will do some rock painting and perhaps some other shell and stone related crafts.

Today we celebrated St Nicholas Day, we spent a lovely afternoon with friends, decorating biscuits and tonight I will read our children the story of St Nicholas.

Isn’t this season lovely? So much to do, crafting, gift and ornament making and beautiful traditions, it’s just wonderful…

Hope you are experiencing a joyful season so far:)

Up Goes the Christmas Tree

We spent Saturday morning dressing our tree with all our handmade decorations and a few shop bought ones and I do feel happy each time I catch a glimpse of it as I walk past.

Friday night was busy, when we came home from scouts, Sandy couldn’t stand up! At about 10:30pm we rushed off to a wonderful emergency vet, just down the road.  She was given a shot, her left side seemed paralysed. We brought her home and hoped for the best! On Saturday morning, I was very nervous to walk into the lounge, I was hoping she would be fine and her usual crazy, happy self. She was! We have no idea what could have caused it, the vet was also mystified but we are all so grateful!!!

We are off to braai with our lovely friends tonight and have a gratitude supper to begin our Christmas season…
