Gardening, knitting, homeschooling

Today was a beautiful sunny day, so we spent most of the morning outside and worked around the garden. We did our schooling this afternoon, it is so wonderful to have this flexibility with homeschooling. When I came outside, Caiden was loading compost into a wheelbarrow and putting it onto our herb garden beds all of his own accord. He really enjoyed the process of this self chosen task and it was wonderful to watch. He understands the beauty within things and I always love how he remarks when he beholds something beautiful and describes its beauty to me exactly as he sees it. I love that he notices these details and dosen’t just pass them by in a rush…

My precious girls were walking around the garden taking photos of some of our plants that are in bloom…
Erin took this photo just outside my bedroom window, so pretty…

This little honey bee landed on this indigenous Buddleja flower cluster as Jen was about to take the photo. These flowers are indigenous to South Africa and really encourage insects and birds to visit your garden, which is great for pollination and our organic vegetable garden. And the fragrance of these flowers is Just divine and they flower in Winter as well as summer, lovely…

These Vinkas grow in the windowbox just outside my kitchen door, they are so pretty and flower continuously and self seed too, I love that we planted them there.

Kye and I built a tent today with colourful playcloths, he loves tents…

Form drawing from Erin:

Erin is in Grade 4 and is busy with her Beowulf block.

All of our knitting projects at the moment:
Jen is busy knitting fingerless gloves in naturally dyed wool… She just loves the fact that this wool has been hand dyed with plants…

Erin is busy knitting a Kerchief like her mama did…

I am knitting a Gnome Hat from The Childen’s Year for Kye, this is such a stunning book, really worth buying…

Have a great week everyone 🙂

I loved looking at the flowers in your garden. Caiden sounds very sensitive and connected to nature. Erin’s photo of the rose is so pretty, how nice that it’s right outside your bedroom window. Jen and Erin (and you!) are so creative and talented.

What a lovely day!! I love the drawings and knitting! Homeschooling is great, isn’t it?! My son is at the skatepark with Dad and my daughter is working in her new scrapbook. And I am blogging with some cool jazz in the backround! Life is good!!

I continue to marvel at how your winter is so different from ours. Wonderful projects by your children – Caiden’s gardening and all! Life is blooming in more than one aspect at your household.

Dear Linda, I love the way you describe how Caiden sees the beauty around him – that is so wonderful. He looks so focussed on his task – it is no easy task pulling a wheelbarrow about. Good on him for observing beauty and for being so dedicated to what he chooses to do. Love all the wonderful knitting. It actually gave me a good kick. I haven’t knitted for a while. Have such a stack of wool I have spun accumulating and all these plans I want to use it for but I haven’t done anything on the knitting front. You guys certainly rule in the knitting kingdom!! Beautiful flowers too! Kye’s tent look like great fun. Have a lovely week.

I love the colors on the fingerless gloves! We have a similar playcloth tent set up right now too. The girls needed to hide out from the thunderstorms. And thanks so much for visiting my blog!

I do love that Caiden appreciates all that is around him and he loves nature and the outdoors. Thanks about all the knitting, I can’t wait to see all the wool that you have handspun. I am going to spin some Alpaca today as soon as I have a moment, I can’t wait, have a wonderful day 🙂

    Hi Renee
Tents are wonderful aren’t they? Sometimes our entire lounge is taken up by them, with chairs, blankets etc… such fun. I loved visiting your blog, it is lovely:)

I especially love the 4th grade knotted form drawings. I’ve tried to replicate what my girls have created and it’s quite difficult!

Oh Linda, I LOVE the colors in the gnome hat you are knitting…Such beautiful yarn…

I am just planning our upcoming year and love to read about what you are doing…It looks like you are getting a lot done 🙂

So much great stuff happening at your place! The form drawings are really neat. The girls’ knitting looks wonderful! I hope you’ll show us when it’s finished. I got more than half-way through Finn’s gnome hat and I’m not going to have enough yarn in that colorway (despite the fact I have the 80 grams called for in the pattern). So…it looks like I’ll be starting over with something else. 🙂

What a beautiful day! We have also been gardening, but it’s 110 degrees out so there’s a lot of dousing with hose water too, lol!The only thing that really keeps us going is the hope of beans and pumpkins for Thanksgiving day.

    Hello Linds

I have to tell you that seeing your garden gnome just warms my heart. I see the hat never leaves the head. I can just imagine him digging and whistling. I love to see knitting happening. Can’t wait to see the poops in his hat.

Enjoy the rain today bud. Looks like pancakes and hot chocolate are on the cards.

Hi Linda. I’m new to reading your blog and i just have to say that I love the gnome hat. The colors are fantastic. My eldest daughter loves Beowulf and the form drawings made me think of her. It is so hot here in Tennesse. Just seeing your photos of winter made me feel a bit cooler. Enjoy your cool days ahead.
