This week I decided to start maths with Caiden my six and a half year old, he is busy learning his numbers, today we did number 3 and while he was drawing the picture of the number three, I started telling him the Story of the Maths Gnomes. It was like a light went on he just loved it. We spoke about the King and how he had gnomes called Times, Minus, Add and Divide and how they collected gem stones for him. It was really a lovely story, it comes out of Dorothy Harrer’s maths book. Now all I need to do is make the gnomes, he can’t wait! Today Jenna learnt about photosynthesis, we also did a drawing of a plant explaining how the process works, I’ve got some lovely drawings off of Melisa Neilson’s Fith Grade cd that comes with her book, the cd is full of pictures for the fith year and it great! Jenna also made a Sun Tea, we have finished our Botany block but for this week we are doing some practical work related to botany. We filled up a jar with water, a peanut butter sized jar and put quite a lot of mint in it. Put it in the sun all day and at the end of the day you have a jar of hot mint tea. Lovely with honey!
