A Lourie in the Garden

Jen was working on her English essays this afternoon and I was sitting with her, I looked out the window at the bird feeder and noticed a Weaver scouting around for food. I hadn’t filled the feeder for a while so I brought some seed and a few cut up apples and soon he was back eating happily. Then a huge Lourie arrived, it was quite funny watching him try to navigate his rather large body into a comfortable position on this tiny bird feeder. Eventually he was able to balance and then got stuck into the apple halves. I love putting out food and waiting to see who will swoop in and visit for a while. The other night, I was outside at dusk and an owl flew silently over, I feel so privileged and lucky to have seen him…

Happy weekend.

Stephanie, (just love those fat rolls…)

Finally the rain has stopped, the sun is shining and oh so warm, it’s amazing how low your spirits start to feel after a couple of days of dull, rainy weather… We went out shopping this morning to buy the last odds and ends for Jenna and Erin’s 20 km scout hike, they’ll be off for the next three days, I’m going to miss my girls! We’ve been looking everywhere for actual waterproof rain jackets and found them today at the last place we looked, Trappers Trading, they’re called Mac in a Sac. I’m so relieved we found them, there’s rain forecast for the next few days and I want the girls to keep as warm and dry as possible.

The chickens and rabbits are all so pleased to be basking in the warm sun but the rain will soon be returning, possibly later this afternoon.

I’m really grateful for our menagerie of pets, they make life so much more interesting and enjoyable…

Did you see we have apples! They got a little pummeled by the last three hail storms but seem to have survived, just think, next year we could possibly have a tree full of them and they are already smelling incredibly sweet!

Hope you are having a lovely day.

Knitted Nativity

PS I’ve compiled a Christmas Nativity Pattern Collection and I have it on special on my Etsy shop for the next few days:)

Loquats!

We are off to a good week, we’ve been doing quite a lot of work in the garden, re-potting plants and we have a guava tree now, I hope it survives our frosts in the winter months. I’ve been designing a cowl pattern, I knitted it up a while ago but never wrote the pattern down, so now I’ve been retracing my stitches and it’s almost finished, I’ll share more about that tomorrow.

Jen starts her grade 10 final exams on Thursday but she really isn’t well today at all, I’m holding thumbs she’ll recover quickly and be able to write.

What have you been busy with this week so far?

A few days ago mother nature gifted us with beautiful rain! We have very cold, dry winters here in Gauteng (Johannesburg) not a drop of rain  for a few months. Somehow, our weather seems to be evolving and resulted in a small cloud burst. We woke up to thunder in the distance, I just adore lying in bed, listening to a storm. It rained solidly for a few hours and then stopped. I ran outside, camera in hand, to explore the beautiful fresh looking world, washed clean before my eyes…

We had a busy but lovely weekend spent with friends and family eating warm soup and homemade bread.

PS I’m having a giveaway on Nicole’s lovely blog Frontier Dreams. I’m offering a knitted pig called Petunia and 8 Mamma4earth knitting patterns, winners choice:)

Wishing you a wonderful start to your week dear friends.
