Even though our family here in South Africa, lives so very far away from the BP oil spill that is ongoing in the Gulf, it is incredibly sad for us to witness this tragedy for marine life and all those whose lives have been touched in a negative way by this crisis… We wanted to help in some way… I came across an amazing web site this morning called Craft Hope. They have found a way for all of those who would like to help in any way that they can. I am so excited and inspired by this… Craft Hope has partnered with The Institute for Marine Mammal Studies and are going to help them with the clean up of the marine animals that have been affected by this oil spill. What they need are cloths, wash rags 10 x 10 size or hand towels that are 14 x 27 and can be cotton, terri cloth, knitted , crocheted etc…
To sign up to help and for more details like where to send you cloths and suggestions on what to use to make them, please visit here.
Even the smallest gesture will make the world of difference:)
Warmly
Linda

Isn’t CraftHope wonderful? So many inspiring projects. Glad you were inspired by the link too, Linda!
Dear Grace,
I am going to dedicate time this week to make as many cloths as I can sew and send them off:)

I live in Florida and our whole ecosystem and economy is being effected by this. The people I work with are collecting hair (we work in a hair salon) to soak up the oil and my husband and I are going to buy a few supplies (dawn detergent, cloths).
Although I am in right in the effected area right now (I am in the Tampa Bay Area) some days you go outside and you can smell the oil. It’s disgusting and makes me so sad. I am asthmatic and it really makes it hard to breathe.
Thanks for posting this!
Dear TulsiLeaf,
I can not imagine what you are going through, to witness this tragedy must be devastating! My heart goes out to you:)

What a wonderful idea!
I live in Panama City, Florida, directly on the Gulf Coast and we are waiting already to see the oil to show up on the white beaches here. I think with the storms we are having right now it will only be days.
It is unbelievable what is going on out there and that the spill is still not under control and we are still not at day 1.
Everything in this area will change after the oil has reached us.
Dolphins, turtles, pelicans, rays, all other seabirds and fish and shrimp, they all will be effected.
Not to speak of the many, many life’s that will be touched as well. People here live off the fishery or tourism and everything in the community is connected somehow to that.
It’s soooo sad.
Wonderful! My girls and I are going to crochet and knit some items.
Dear Sue,
It must be frightening waiting for that oil to hit your beautiful beaches and knowing the negative impact it is going to have:( I am holding all of you that live in the area and all marine life in my thoughts…

I just sent out an email to everyone I know asking for Walmart Gift Cards and donations of cotton cloths to send on. Thank you for the simple, yet effective way to help. I feel better knowing I’m going to be a part of it.
I meant to say I am *not* right in the effected area yet.
It’s just so heartbreaking still. And little tarballs are starting to wash ashore. I am terrified of taking my daughter and family to the beach now.
Thank you for this link Linda. What a great idea! I’ve wanted to help, and have not had any idea of what I could do.
What a great cause. I will definitely look at getting involved. xo m.
Thank you for sharing the link to Craft Hope. I agree that any contribution we can each have is needed.
