This Past Week…

This past week has been a wonderfully productive week 🙂 We have all been very busy, swimming and enjoying late Spring here… The weather is wonderful and soon to be unfolding into Summer…

I have been knitting square hats with my beautiful rainbow yarn bought from http://mamajudes.etsy.com she sells the most amazing naturally dyed yarns and is a wonderful dyer…

I have finished one of my latest custom orders this past week and it is on its way to its new home, I just love creating these little knitted treasures and sending them out into the world…

Erin has finished her weather block, we finished off by making a wind vein, it was really easy to make and we used the Book of Weather Wisdom for this. We used a pen lid, a metal coathanger and Erin drew a chicken that was double sided to sit on top of the pen lid that balances on top of the coathanger, it really worked well…

These beautiful creations are from nancy at http://dragonflyshollow.etsy.com I have already blogged about April who is sitting on the left. On the right is a beautiful new doll for Erin, she is called Halle and is too lovely for words… Nancy, we honestly really do love your Waldorf dolls, you are an inspirational artist… Thank you…

This is my handspun that I dyed a couple of blog posts ago, I have finished it and I am probably going to knit a unicorn with it or a magical horse, I haven’t quite decided yet…

The spinning process…

We have finally finished building my work room, I am just waiting for the floor to go in, that will be tomorrow, Yay! The children had so much fun building castles out of the bricks…

Here is my youngest little one, Kye, completely absorbed with his very precious toys, they go everywhere with him and he plays with them for hours. Ahhh so sweet…
Thank You Joy:
I would like to just say a Huge, Thank You to Joy, over at http://blaserkids.blogspot.com/2009/10/handmade-fridays-mamma4earth.html

Us…

It has been really cold here lately and I wanted to capture some of the icy moments with my camera, these Oak leaves were frozen and so beautiful….

Our slide… you can see the tiny frost crystals..

The winner of the sock wool giveaway was Harvest Moon, well done Ann!

Harvest Moon by Hand said…
Enjoyed reading about your chickens and seeing pictures of them. My daughters keep asking me to get some chickens so they can take care of them and have fresh eggs. Would love to be entered into the sock wool giveaway. Thanks! Ann

Thanks so much to everyone who entered, it was great hearing from all of you…

Our Roman Feast….

Olive leaf crowns were prepared

The table was set…

Jen and I picked fresh herbs from the garden, Thyme, Bay, Lemon etc… for the chickens that were cooked, (not our chickens by the way…), she prepared everything, the olives, grapes, a cheese platter with crackers, we baked fresh bread, unfortunately we couldn’t find any figs or asparagus, but a great feast was had. It really was fantastic and we all sat and chatted around the table for ages and sampled all the tasty foods. Kye, our 3 year old thought it was very grand…

Our resources for Ancient Rome… Charles Kovacs is a wonderful writer, we really enjoy his books. Jenna is busy reading The Bronze Bow at the moment and she is really enjoying it..

My knitting is always close by and I often have to rescue my knitting basket from Charlie, who really does believe I have put it next to my chair for him to play with. He is so wonderfull… and so loved…

I also started knitting a hat for Cady, he asked me so nicely to please knit him a hat and of course I am. Hats knitted by mama are the best aren’t they…

We also went shopping for guitar stands and straps for the girls’ guitars’ this weekend. Jenna and Erin LOVE playing their guitars and I must say, I really do love the sound of a guitar, it is so peaceful and beautiful. It is wonderful to hear them playing and the music wafts through the house…

I had to blog this mug, I found them at the shop yesterday and just love them, this is going to be my favourite mug for tea… do you have a favourite tea or coffee mug?

Has anyone noticed a slight change in the seasons? We are in the thick of winter, but our fruit trees are almost ready to burst into blossom and the Weaver birds are already building nests…

My hubby and his mountain biking partner, Stan did an off road race today, the wind was blowing, it was freezing, but they loved every minute of it and are a wee bit tired…

Lastly, it has also been quite a busy weekend because I opened my Etsy yarn shop and I have been listing plenty of wool. I have called my shop www.mamma4earthyarns.etsy.com

I will be having a yarn giveaway soon for the opening of my shop…

Have an inspiring week everyone…

Warmly

Linda

Tuesday…

Today is quite chilly outside, actually my fingers feel freezing on the keyboard, but I love to visit all your blogs and see what everyone has been doing so far in this week. We have just come back from guitar lessons and my children have built a double tight rope and are having such fun! Next week we will be building a platform tree house in our Oak Tree in the back yard and they want to have a pulley system linking between that and the other Oak tree, exciting times ahead…

This is Ben and River, they are two Turtle doves that Jenna and Erin rescued and have been taking care of over the last two weeks, they are almost ready to be released and are so beautiful.

Drawings from Ancient Greece and Astronomy from Jenna:

Grecian Urn:

Leo and Hercules:

Orion:

Erin has just finished her second Man and Animal Block and now we are starting Beowulf:

Caiden is enjoying Fables still and he is almost finished his block:

The Fox and the Crow:

Caiden’s desert scene for verbs and nouns, sounds animals make in the desert, we are still busy with this.

Lastly, my Shabby Chic Donkey I knitted from my yarn I spun on my spinningwheel.

Don’t forget to leave a comment for the sock wool giveaway, just page down a few posts to find it.

Lunch:

Today we are having a real South African lunch, we are having Pap and Gravy it is really yummy and really filling,

Recipe:

Ingredients:

1 Bag of Mielie Meal ( crushed dried white corn)

Gravy:

4 Tomatoes, 1 onion, beef stock, salt, pepper, oil.

Bring 1 litre of water to the boil, once water is boiling add 4 cups of mealie meal and cook slowly for about an hour or until it is fluffy.

While this is cooking, take another pot for your gravy,

Gravy:

Cook your chopped up onions and tomatoes in a little oil then add about 1 tblsp of beef stock and mix into your tomatoes and onion, add some water and allow you gravy to cook until it is lovely and thick.

Add salt to taste, it is really divine, we eat ours with some Achar on the side, yummy…

Dish up your pap and pour on your gravy and there you go…

Have a great day…

Homeschooling and our winter garden

We had a wonderful weekend, still not too cold here in South Africa yet and we have had so much rain which I am very grateful for because of our vegetable garden. We celebrated our Winter Solstice with good friends and we all made warm, hearty food to eat, curry, bobotie and lasagna, it was really wonderful! We also celebrated Father’s Day yesterday, had a family braai and a lovely day….

Here are some photos from our week:

Here Kye is playing with his wooden tree house that we made for him, he loves building different scenes with all the different characters and acorns etc… He usually plays here while we are busy with our mornings work…

We discovered that one of our rabbit’s burrows had collapsed and we spoke to our local vet, he suggested that we just keep an eye on them, but their mom would take good care of them and she has. They have moved their nest of fur off here so I took a few photos and then we covered them up again with the white soft fur. It is amazing how much fur their mom pulls off herself to line their nest and it is so warm in the nest, absolutely amazing. They are all so very cute and growing by the day.

This is not the greatest photo but you can see the little one…

Caiden hard at work, he is busy with Fables at the moment and loving them…

My hair has been needing a trim for quite some time now and Jenna offered to trim it for me, I think she did a great job, I am so glad, because the thought of sitting for hours at a hairdresser is not too appealing for me so, I am thrilled!

We had a visitor this week and managed to find his owners, he does keep on returning every night though but then he goes home. His name is Garfield and he is huge!

I had to blog this photo for Onegoldensun to see, this is our cat Olive, she is so similar to the cat in your previous blog post….

Winter garden photos…

Introducing my latest knitted treasure, Milly House Mouse….

Have a great week everyone!
