A Sunday to Remember

Yesterday was our dear Erin’s 13th birthday, both the girls were away at a scout camp from Saturday morning and Erin and Jen were to come home around lunch time and celebrate Erin’s special day here with us. The phone rang early in the morning, it was the scout master, telling me that Jenna had stepped out of her boat into a hole in the ground that was hidden by grass. Once her foot went into the hole, there was a loud ‘crack’ sound! Now I began to panic! He wasn’t too sure if the leg was broken, but said it had started to swell quite considerably. My heart was beating fast, Erin’s cake was baking in the oven and Richard had my car over a half an hour away where he was mountain biking. I phoned him, he answered and was on his way home and almost here, he went straight to the camp to fetch Jen and Erie. Her leg had been splinted, the scouts were amazing, they had helped her so much already!

Off to the ER… Jen was so brave… after waiting which seemed like forever, she finally went into x-ray. She has a fracture just above her ankle and damaged ligaments. They put on a half cast up to her knee and on Thursday we have to go back for more x-rays and have a full cast put on. Our poor girl! She is trying to get used to the crutches.

We just realised that when Jenna had her 13th birthday, Erin was thrown from a horse and had to spend the day in hospital having a brace fitted to her leg and now on Erin’s 13th birthday, Jenna fractured her leg and was in hospital….

When everyone was back at home we celebrated Erin’s birthday, the whole family came over to share her day, it was lovely.

We love you so much dear Erie Faerie! Happy 13th birthday my love…

I made Erin a vanilla birthday cake with white chocolate ganache in the centre.

We also managed to spend some time outside with the chickens in the leaf pile…
Wishing you a lovely week.

PS Lovely rainbow yarn and backpack giveaway in the previous post.

Jasmine, Green Leaves and Spotted Eggs…

There is nothing quite like the smell of Jasmine wafting through one’s garden, is there? We have quite a few Jasmine creepers in our garden and they are all flowering together, creating a heady perfume for the olfactory senses to enjoy. I love this time of year, so exciting, the re-birth and regrowth can be seen everywhere… The garden is turning green and each day, when I go outside for a walk, there are new blossoms and green leaves…

I have planted some Daffodils and Snowdrops amongst my veggies this year…

A flowering plum hangs gracefully over our swimming area…

Oak leaves at the top of our English Oak tree…

The broad beans are flowering too…

Strawberries… we planted some Pennyroyal under the strawberry plants to keep insects away…
(Please Note: Pennyroyal is not edible, should not be planted near pets or where children play, it is an excellent insect repellent to keep away ants and mosquitoes and insects that want to eat your gorgeous strawberries and tomato plants). I own a copy of ‘Companion Planting’ by Margaret Roberts and it is wonderful. Please always check the safety of herbs and certain plants before planting them in your garden.

This is Erin’s chicken Milly, Milly was very ill and now she is looking much better, Erin and Milly have formed a special bond, as you can see…

The young chickens have started to lay! I just love their little speckled eggs, so sweet!

Rainbows and Tree Houses, Oh Yes…

Today has been a day of working with colour and rainbows, learning about the colour spectrum and how colour emerges. It has been an exciting day indeed!

We are greeted by many rainbows all over our classroom walls each morning as the sun shines through a crystal hanging in the window…

My Shalom is almost finished, it has been such an enjoyable project that has taken much longer than I anticipated. It has been a journey and I think that is the important part for me… so much has happened since I started knitting this cardigan and when I wear it, I know I will reflect on all those moments and experiences during its creation process…

Kye has been loving this tea set, we have all been served copious cups of tea to drink, so sweet:)

Some of Erin’s colour mixing experiments… It is so magical to see the different colours suspended and then slowly mixing within the water…

Jen is busy learning about the art of the short story and this book has been a wonderful resource.

A chicken or two do tend to sneak in at the window sometimes for a wee visit…

Caiden has been working on his tree house in the Loquat tree, he has built it all by himself and is tremendously proud of his work, as am I.

How has your Thursday been so far?

Take care
Linda xo

12 Today!

Today is Erin’s 12th birthday!
How fast you have grown…
We all love you so much our sweet girl…

And yes, I did manage to finish her very special cardigan, she has worn it the whole day and loves it…  I am so pleased I was able to finish it for her. It brought her so much joy to open this gift today… she said it is the best present she has ever received besides her cat Charlie. To hear her say this about something I made for her makes me feel such pride and happiness within my heart and soul… Words fail me as I attempt to explain this wonderful emotion for a mama, but I am sure you all understand what I am trying to say…

And now here are some photos of Erin’s special cardigan…

The buttons…

Happy Birthday Erie Fairy….
