Going Solar in SA

Solar Jar

This is an amazing little gem! It’s called a Solar Jar. Just place in the sun for eight hours initially.

Flip the magnet onto the dot and…

You’ll have eight hours of solar light from your jar!

I cannot tell you how much I love these little treasures! We are experiencing a major electricity crisis here in South Africa, our electricity provider, Eskom is battling to deliver power to the whole of SA due to maintenance issues and repairs etc… Our power will suddenly turn off for 3 hours at a time, sometime twice a day, with no warning. We have a schedule for power outages but they don’t seem to be adhering to it anymore. At least with these delightful jars, we can have some light available to us. I’m going to be giving these as Christmas gifts this year, they are practical and not too expensive. I bought ours at Trappers for R 149. With the way things are going in SA right now, we will have to seek out alternative power sources, apparently this power issue will not be rectified by Eskom in the near future. We are also looking at installing a gas hob on our stove to make cooking a little easier.

Do you use solar power in your home? If you have any links or ideas for us, please share in the comments:)

We don’t have solar yet but we will. It cost a pretty penny to start up but after that it will pay itself off. Here in AZ there really is no excuse for not having solar!
