Kye and I have been busy with a few nature crafts for Autumn. We found the inspiration for these crafts in a lovely book called Earthwise by Carol Petrash. This is a wonderful book divided up into the different seasons with lovely projects for each season. We used some pine cones, acorns and felt for the cone people and for the Autumn leaf picture, we used some paint, pretty handmade paper and a toothbrush with an oak leaf as our template. He is thoroughly enjoying our Autumn crafting and is so exited to discover what he will be busy with each day.

These are the sweet slippers that I mentioned in yesterday’s post. My mom has been knitting slippers for everyone in our family, they are truly divine! I have never worn such cozy slippers in my life and even our older teenage daughters adore wearing them too! We have adapted a slipper pattern found in the book called The Children’s Year. Each pair my mom makes for us is such a special gift.

What seasonal crafting have you been busy with?

PS I have added a free tutorial over on Ravelry, it’s a tutorial on how to stuff and finish off your knitted animal patterns, if you would like to download it go here.

We’re heading into Spring so I’ve been revisiting our old favourites and thinking about how I may change things up a bit this year!

I love your splattered leaf print, I’d like to try that with a Spring symbol. Any ideas?!

Maybe if you cut out Easter eggs and cut small shapes out of them that could be quite effective, or butterflies, bunnies etc… Any template for Spring would work beautifully.
      Thanks for popping by:)

The only seasonal stuff I’ve been doing is pasture work. I haven’t made anything in weeks. But I have been working on the book I’m making of my mother’s life. And I’ve been tracking down family lines – which is really more of a winter thing. But this morning, I manfully wrestled fence sections and gates into place, and carried VERY heavy metals things around. I think that still counts?

Love the pine cone people. The only cone-producers we have are spruce and they are too long and skinny for these cute people and also they wouldn’t stand well. I’ll have to drag some outdoor Christmas decorations out from the garage and pick out the pinecones. I think the neighbor girls will like them.

My grandmother used to make us all slippers when I was younger…she taught me to crochet..she passed away on Sunday….I now make my husband “feet blankets” as he calls them

Linda, This is SO amazing: I was telling my husband about your blog and how we share similarities with educating our children and I asked him, “What were those two books we lived by, remember? Where we first started the nature table (which has expanded into our whole house decorating style), and making butter, and those stained glass waxed paper decorations, and…” We kept talking and laughing about all those projects and activities and all of the fun we had with the girls. Well, you know where this is going–Earthwise and The Children’s Year were those books! Oh, I envy the fun! Perhaps I will try to ask my 18 year old (who is home from college on break) if she will step away from the computer, put down her cell phone, and help me make butter. Those books are treasures, glad you found them!

We’re busy adding little gnomes and seed pods to our nature table. And cicada nymph skins which were found on a tree by the creek. So no Autumn crafting yet, unless you count the pegs we’re painting for the peg doll swap.
