Ellie the Knitted Elephant and a Small Giveaway

Meet Ellie, she is my new elephant design, I have designed an elephant previously, but I wasn’t too excited about the overall shape, so I thought about it for quite a while and then came up with new design. I have knitted her in an aran weight wool with 4mm needles. She is knitted flat with increasing and decreasing, a fairly easy pattern. The tusks are knitted as i-cords and the eyes are needle felted on.
Her height is 5 inches and 7 inches from trunk to tail.
I have also knitted this pattern in a thicker chunky wool and she knits up twice the size!

Ellie’s pattern is avaliable on my Mamma4earth Etsy Shop for sale.

I am giving away 2 Ellie elephant patterns to 2 readers, just leave a comment below and make sure to check back here on Tuesday to see if you have won:)

Congratulations to:

So lovely! What a great pattern! : )
what a lovely pattern! She looks so sweet!
thanks for the chance at your giveaway!

Hope you are having a peaceful Sunday.

I recently began knitting again after raising a family that are now all grown. So I began again for the enjoyment I receive, but after looking at your patterns, I could definitely make some of these for my grandchild who has difficulty with dexterity in his right hand. I think he would really enjoy the texture and handling these precious creatures would help with fine muscle control. Thank you for sharing these patterns with us.

its great to see your little Ellie, i took out a book from our local library and found a great elephant pattern. i made it and won first price at the state fair in New Mexico. if i knew how to send a photo i would but i’m very computer challened. it looks very different from you pattern. i ended up making two because both my daughters wanted one. one is gray and the other is in southwest colors. i would love to have one more for myself.

So cute and the nickname my daughter, Eleanor, is often called! I wonder if, in your creative and environmentally aware endeavors, if you might someday consider giving a portion of sale profits toward the survival of various endangered animal species you are creating? I think many would happily spend another dollar or two for the patterns if they knew it would be going toward rescue of such endangered species.

Thank you for creating Ellie, such a beautiful and graceful elephant, there will be entire herds launched off our
knitting needles to share world wide with young and old!

  79. K April 3, 2012 at 6:07 am #

She’s elegant, Linda. I love the forehead, and the tail taper. You think about things, and out they come. I think about things = and the result is pretty much what happens when you pull the wrong end in a skein of yarn – tangled thoughts and more knots than I can get through without pulling my hair out. You’ve got to stop making things so I can catch up. I’m on my 7th camel. Will I go wild before I finish all the camels i need, I wonder? Wouldn’t I rather be making Ellie? Or your new Jack? Or a very tiny fox?
