Lunar Eclipse in the Southern Hemisphere

Last night at 8:22pm South African time, we started watching a spectacular lunar eclipse. It was a beautiful sight. We all stood and watched the moon mask into shadow and turn a blazing red colour. Truly magnificant to witness! I took some photos to share…

wow! that’s pretty amazing to catch it so well.
I just saw the moon through a telescope last month and was floored that you could see the bumpy surface around the edge. All the way from earth!

Fantastic photos, had intended to watch it from here in the uk, but as usual we were thwarted by cloud cover! It had been sooooo nice all day then as soon as it was time for the eclipse to start, the sky went cloudy! Your photos have made up for us missing it thank you!

Wasn’t it goosebumps-all-over, take-your-breath-away? A timely kid waking saw me wander out into the back garden to spend some time breathing in the still and general amazingness. Then I hopped back under those warm blankets quick sticks!
