Inspired by this post yesterday, I really felt I wanted to make banana and date milkshakes! I decided to use almond milk instead of dairy as we are all slightly allergic to dairy here. So I put some almonds into a basin of water to soak overnight to soften up nicely and used them today to make the milk.
We put the 2 cups of soaked almonds in the blender with 2 cups of water. Blended it on medium for about a minute and then we had lovely creamed almonds.
I put a sieve over a bowl and placed some cheesecloth over the sieve, poured the blended almonds onto the cheesecloth and squeezed as much of the milk out of the blended almonds as possible.
Now to make the milkshakes…
We poured the almond milk into the blender with 4 bananas, the inside of 1 vanilla pod and about 5 dates to sweeten the milkshake.
Blended everything until it was lovely and smooth… Yum, everyone enjoyed their milkshakes and were asking for more:)

Hello Linda,
thank you so much for the recipe for almond milk! It´s seems so easy. Do you peel off the brown skin of the almonds?
I was thinking of buying a machine which makes soya milk very quickly, but I think, I probably don´t need it? The problem I was thinking of is – where to buy soya beans in north africa (when I will move there)??
I will try your recipe for creamy almond milk and then see….

Dear Nima Noema,
You are welcome:) I just put the soaked almonds into the blender as is, and blend them up to a thick paste(I don’t peel them). All the thick pieces and the brown skin stay behind inside the cheesecloth when you strain it.
How exciting that you are moving to North Africa!
Take care
Warmly
Linda
hey Linda:)
thanks! so glad that I have inspired you!
But your choice of almond milk is just great!also the vanilla-tip! I think you really upgraded my banana-dates milkshake to a perfect almondmilk-banana-vanilla-dates-shake..wow:) thanks so much!

Ummmm. Is there any left over?
That looks totally delicious!
I’ve been making almond milk for a couple of months now and have never thought to use some for milkshakes. Your recipe sounds so yummy. Thanks for sharing it. I think it is one my children would love for breakfast.
After I strain the milk I save the pulp and dry if for use as almond flour. It is so much more cost effective than buying what is in the stores.
Yum. x
Hi Linda, this looks so good. One of our favorite snacks is almonds soaked in water. I never thought of using the water in a smoothie or shake. Goodness, look what we’ve been missing.
I love almonds and I have a shake every morning….I’m going to have to try this it sounds delicious!
well, yum! looks so easy to make almond milk. I should try that!
I tried to make almond milk last year and came to the conclusion that I need a much better blender. Of course, I didn’t end up buying a new (better) one, but seeing your delicious and creamy looking almond milk makes me think the time might be coming soon for a new one!
This is a wonderful recipe! And one that is going quickly into our weekly menu. Thank you :).
