The other night Richard and I went out into the yard to fetch some firewood because it is freezing here at night at the moment! We got such a fright, something flew out of the wood pile. We soon discovered it was this beautiful mama Rock Pigeon. They are such beautiful, large birds with red rings surrounding their wise eyes.
We are not sure when her little ones will hatch but we will leave this wood pile until next year so she can raise her family…
It has been really cold here and last week while I was talking on the phone, I noticed water started to drip and then run really fast from out of the ceiling! When we opened the trap door, it was spraying out like a sprinker was on up there. Luckily, someone was able to come out and fix our pipes that morning. When they took the burst pipes out of the roof they showed me that the water was frozen inside!
Frozen birdbaths…
Can you believe it! It doesn’t usually get this cold here in sunny South Africa.
And now a smoothie recipe for you:
2 babanas (peeled)
1 handfull of pak choi leaves
2 kiwi fruits (peeled)
200 mml water
half a vanilla pod
Blend all the ingredients in your blender and enjoy:) (This is a yummy one!)
I built a Natural Kids Treasury on Etsy today, such wonderful creative artists in it:)
Happy Thursday
Linda

Good for the soccer players. They probably prefer the cold. LOL Cute picture of the dove in your wood pile!
I keep forgetting its your wintertime!
Thank goodness those pipes were fixed.
based on your post title, i thought the visitor was going to be much more creepy! 😉 she is beautiful! hope you are enjoying a little cold and ice….minus the freezing pipes! yikes.
Germandolls,
The soccer is going well here, what will we do once the World Cup is over?
TulsiLeaf,
It is very cold here, our fires are keeping us warm. I am relieved that the pipes were fixed. We were without hot water for 24 hours. Not that great in winter time:)
Momma Rae,
Hello dear Rae. She is the sweetest bird, we also have a bat that lives in our patio umbrella, he is sweet too:)
Warmly
Linda
My husband was doing work on one of our woodpiles, was up on the top of it somehow, and happened to look down – only to see two luminous eyes looking unblinkingly up at him. it was the tiniest little owl, all stuffed down there in that dangerous space between the fat logs and the poor cedar fence. We shot some vid of him. And maybe I even got a little picture of him. I have to look. We tried not to frighten him. But the next day, he was gone.
Birds can be so lovely. We have mourning doves- mated pairs in our yard. We lost one against the window the other day, and it made me so sad.
Yes it is cold here, my flower bowl of water by the backdoor had a covering of ice this morning, cheers Marie
That does look cold! Keep warm and cosy, Linda.
What a sweet bird– glad you have your hot water again!
That’s a beautiful bird…ours don’t look that pretty around here.

Oh, now I feel like a dork! I’ve always spelled Chinese Cabbage as Bak not Pak, no wonder I didn’t get it. Thank you.

I was expecting a cobra!!! Ha…seems like I have some major African misconceptions!!! It must be lovely for those soccer players though, to have some nice cool weather to play in!!!

Today. That ice actually looks refreshing. But not in my pipes. That isn’t good at all.
