Portrait Saturday, Red Hot Pokers and Raw Food

Our Red Hot Pokers (Kniphofia uvaria), indigenous to South Africa are in full bloom, they are quite spectacular to look at and attract an amazing amount of bird life, bees and insects to our garden:)

Today we went shopping for a juicer and a blender, we are slowly incorporating raw foods into our diet. If anyone has any suggestions on a dehydrator or appliances that they use and love, please could you let me know. It is quite a pricey purchase, so I want to buy the right ones:) We started our day with wheat grass that had been juiced. Jen has planted a large tray of it and today it was ready to juice. She cut all the grass just above the soil and juiced it with some lemons and apples, it tasted really great and is so wonderfully good for you too:) I think we will have to plant more trays of it so we have enough for every morning 🙂
Oh and I almost forgot, if you know of ANY awesome raw recipes online, please, please redirect me there, thank you kindly:)

When we started looking at a raw food diet, it was like learning a whole new language! Completely different ingredients etc… Now we have been trying different recipes and I must say I feel so much lighter, I have much more energy and I just feel amazing! So onward we go on this journey…

Have a wonderful weekend friends:)
Linda

Hi Linda, I just discovered your blog recently and I just had to say how much I love it! It’s really inspiring me to slow down and enjoy the little things in life more.

I’ve never seen such beautiful flowers! The color is amazing! I’ve also been wanting to get a dehydrator for a while now. From all the raw food blogs I read, they ALL seem to use the same one: The Excalibur Dehydrator. It has a 5 tray one and a 9 tray one that I know of. I know when I’m ready to purchace one, that’s what I’m going for, it looks amazing!

    Have a wonderful weekend 🙂

    Dear Stephanie,
Welcome and thank you so much for posting a comment:) I also like the look of the Excalibur, I like that it has a rectangular shape and now there is a new one out with a timer! Thank you so much for your kind words about my blog:)
    Have a great day,
    Warmly
    Linda

The red hot pokers are beautiful! I would love to see the birds they attract. Do you get hummingbirds in your area?

I have heard great things about raw food, but haven’t tried too much of it. I live about an hour from San Francisco and there are several raw food restaurants there.

Hope you are enjoying your weekend, Linda.

    Dear Stacy,
We do get hummingbirds here, they are so beautiful and their little wings flap at an amazing speed:) How wonderful to have raw food restaurants near to where you live!
    Have a lovely day,
    Hugs

    Beautiful flowers!
My mom has a dehydrator that she loves, I think it’s called the Excalibur. We love all the goodies she makes with it!

Stunning flowers. We had a few where we used to live and I was thrilled and surprised when they bloomed the first time. So lovely.

We have a cheap dehydrator: the american harvester snackmaster. We have had it since 1992 when my husband hiked several months on the Applachian Trail and it is still ticking along nicely. I can’t say how it would hold up with daily or weekly use, however.
