Emerald Isle Cowl

Thanks so much to everyone who has joined my Christmas Ornament Swap, it’s going to be lovey!

I have been working on a cowl pattern for a few days, I just adore this shade of green, a real algae green, too beautiful! This has been such an exciting knit, I have loved watching the pattern elements develop into knitted stitches and the variegated wool is also something I enjoy tremendously, showing its subtle changes in colour and adding a whole new character to the piece once it is finished.

I am knitting this cowl in a DK merino wool from Colourspun on 5mm circular needles and it can be made as long or as thick as you wish by just adding more pattern repeats.  Pattern writing is so much fun and I think I am going to enjoy designing garments as well as knitted toy animals!

PS This is going to be a free pattern as soon as I have finished knitting it:)

WIP Wednesday and Yarn Along

I am still busy with my Color Affection Shawl and I am really enjoying the knitting process. I just love how the pattern is divided up into various sections and how the second section joins the first piece at an almost 45 degree angle. It’s exciting! The colours are a motivating aspect too,  variegated yarns are wonderful this way, the colours continue to develop and grow and then suddenly change and morph into something else altogether…

I am knitting in these three colours, the variegated ball is a camel silk handspun and the other two are commercially spun kid mohair. Oh this shawl is so warm as I knit with it on my lap, I can’t wait to feel it draped over my shoulders on a chilly day…

You can see how the second colour section joins the first at the perfect angle.

I have finished the first of the slippers for the slipper pattern I am designing, it is a cozy fit:)

I am reading the A Knitter’s Home Companion, I adore this book! I take it with me everywhere, out in the car etc… It’s full of stories , recipes and patterns, a delightful publication. I think I saw it on your blog Tracey, thank you so much for letting me know about this wonderful book, you always have such beautiful book suggestions:)

Circumnavigate Cowl, Yarn Along

I am so excited to share this new project with you, the Circumnavigate Cowl. I love it, the pattern stitches and the shape of it. From the very start, I knew just which roving I was going to spin, a camel silk for extra softness… and it is incredibly soft to wear around the neck.

I knitted the pattern exactly as it was written and didn’t change a thing. The colourway of this roving reminds me of the ocean… My Ravelry notes are here.

I am looking for a new cardigan pattern to knit, Richard has been so sweet and has offered gift me with wool for my birthday on Friday:) So, I have been searching Ravelry for a pattern along similar lines as the Shalom and Tea Leaves, if you have any suggestions, please do share them.

Have a wonderful day and Yarn along, I am joining with Ginny today.

Yarn Along

I have finished my Elegant Cotswold Cowl, I decided on this name as I wanted it to have an almost historical flavour to it of  Elizabethan times. It is a delicate cowl to be worn with a jacket or a simple shirt, to add beauty to what you are wearing. It fits snugly around the neck and what fun I had knitting it. I am usually designing patterns of animals but I have started also thinking about clothing, incorporating wonderful design elements… I am busy charting the pattern now and will make it available on Ravelry as soon as it is ready. My beautiful daughter Jenna was kind enough to model it for these photos…

I am so looking forward to visiting your links via Ginny’s Yarn Along

Hope you are having an inspired day:)

Linda
