Santa Christmas Hat Pattern and Creative Friday

I’ve been working on a little Santa Hat pattern this morning, it’s a very versatile little hat and can be used as a hanging decoration on your tree, a name tag or place tag at the Christmas table. It knits up in no time at all!

Here is the pattern:

Materials:

Dk red merino yarn oddments

Dk white merino yarn oddments

Brushed mohair oddments

3.5 mm circular needles

Sewing needle

Notes:

When you change the colours of the yarn for the stripes, make sure you carry the yarns up the beginning inside area of the row by twisting them so that when you need to change colours, they will be there to knit with.

Cast on 20 stitches and join for knitting in the round.

Rounds 1-4: Knit 4 rounds of stocking stitch in brushed white mohair for the fluffy rim of the hat (knit a round then purl a round and repeat both again)

Rounds 5-8: Join the red yarn and knit 4 rounds in red.

Round 9-12: Tie on the beige merino yarn and knit carrying the red yarn up each round. Remember to carry the red yarn up the inside of the hat by twisting it around the beige each time you reach the end of the round and visa-versa with the other rounds.

Round 13: Knit (red)

Round 14: (Knit 1, knit 2 tog) across the round, knit 2 on the end (14 stitches) red

Round 15: Knit, red

Round 16: (Knit 1, knit 2 tog) across  the round, knit 2 on the end (10 stitches) red

Round 17: Knit, red

Round 18: Knit in beige yarn.

Round 19: Knit 1, knit 2 tog, knit 2, knit 1, knit 2 tog, knit 2. (8 stitches)beige

Round 20: Knit, beige

Round 21: Knit, beige

Round 22: Knit, red

Round 23: Knit 1, knit 2 tog, knit 1, knit 1, knit 2 tog, knit 1 (6 stitches)red

Round 24: Knit1, knit 2 tog, knit 1, knit 2 tog (4 stitches)red

Round 25: Knit 2 tog, knit 2 tog (2 stitches)red

Bind off by cutting the yarn and threading it onto a needle, thread the needle through the 2 remaining stitches, pull tight.

Sew in all ends, I used two of the strands from sewing up and tied them into a bow on the top of the hat.

Happy knitting!
