11 Today

Photos taken with Instagram eeeearly this morn…

Happy Birthday to our sweet boy, Caiden!

There was so much excitement here this morning, as you can imagine, he has been counting down the days for months! I think we all got up at 6:45 am and made our way to the birthday table prepared in the front lounge. I love preparing the birthday table, it has been a family tradition for quite a few years now.  I got the idea from this lovely book called The Birthday Book, a Waldorf inspired book, full of birthday goodness. I also made felt crowns for our children a few years ago and these little traditions have such great meaning to all of us. The night before each birthday I read a sweet poem from that lovely book and even though they are all getting older, they still love to have their poem read to them by myself and have that special table waiting for them each birthday morning…

The birthday cake has been baked and is cooling in the kitchen…

We wish you all the love and happiness in the world dear Cady,

Love from all of us.

PS I have had a few questions about the yarn over in the pattern, it just means take the wool around the needle and then continue knitting, it will make a hole.

My mom bought this shawl in the late 1940s and gave it to me a few years ago, I really love the pattern and would like to make a few for myself in different colours. It’s a crochet pattern (I am not too good at crochet) but I’m going to go and search for it on Ravelry anyway. Anyone seen anything similar before?

Happy Monday!

Creative Friday and a Rectangle Heart Pattern

Dear friends,

Thank you all so much for your very kind thoughts and prayers over the last few days. You have given our family such wonderful support and love, you have carried me through such tremendous sadness over the passing of my beloved dad. Our family has come together and it has been so lovely to share this time with them… I am so very blessed to know all of you, I can’t say thank you enough…

I have been knitting and knitting and we are still going forward with our recovery blanket, we are knitting it in honour of my dad and will be giving the blanket to my dear mom so that she can wrap herself in it and remember their love…

As I can’t share the vintage pattern that we have been knitting from  a magazine, I have designed a piece that is exactly the same size and will share the pattern below and will fit beautifully with the other pieces.

Thank you so much to everyone who wrote to me by email and on Facebook requesting the pattern to contribute to this special project. I am adding my postal address below, so if you feel you would like to add a piece, we would be very honored to include it.
