Up Goes the Christmas Tree

We spent Saturday morning dressing our tree with all our handmade decorations and a few shop bought ones and I do feel happy each time I catch a glimpse of it as I walk past.

Friday night was busy, when we came home from scouts, Sandy couldn’t stand up! At about 10:30pm we rushed off to a wonderful emergency vet, just down the road.  She was given a shot, her left side seemed paralysed. We brought her home and hoped for the best! On Saturday morning, I was very nervous to walk into the lounge, I was hoping she would be fine and her usual crazy, happy self. She was! We have no idea what could have caused it, the vet was also mystified but we are all so grateful!!!

We are off to braai with our lovely friends tonight and have a gratitude supper to begin our Christmas season…

Christmas Santa Boot Ornament Pattern ©

I have been knitting Christmas ornaments for our tree this year, each year I knit a few more and like to share them here with you:) I have knitted this Santa Boot in a thick worsted yarn, I added a little black sole for the boot and a fluffy top. This boot is knit in the round with circular needles and I have used a 3 needle cast off, I have added a small tutorial for that.

Materials:

Oddments of beige brushed mohair yarn for the top of the boot.

Oddments of worsted red yarn for the boot.

Worsted black yarn for the sole of the boot

4mm circular needles

4mm straight needle for 3 needle cast off

Sewing needle

Scissors

Stuffing

Christmas Santa Boot Ornament Pattern ©:

Cast on 12 stitches in brushed mohair, join for knitting in the round for the magic loop technique, divide the stitches to have 6 stitches on each needle and knit 3 rounds.

Join the red worsted yarn

Knit 10 rows in the round

Rounds 11-17: Knit and kfb (knit into the front and back of the stitch to increase) into the stitch before and after the 2 middle stitches, knit to end. (26 stitches)

Rounds 18-20: Knit

Join the black worsted yarn and knit 2 rounds for the sole of the boot.

Turn the boot inside out keeping the stitches on the needles and cast off with three needle cast off.

For the 3 needle cast off you will need a straight 4mm needle.

Bring the stitches to the ends of both circular needles as seen in the above photo. Take the straight needle and knit into both the end stitches together on the 2 circular needles like you would normally knit a regular stitch resulting with one stitch on the 3rd needle (right straight needle).

Once again, knit together into the first stitches on the circular needles with the 3rd needle and a second stitch will end up on the straight needle. Pass the back stitch on the straight needle over the first stitch and you will have one stitch remaining.

Continue knitting the first stitches on the circular needles together with the straight needle and passing the back stitch over the first stitch of the extra and eventually you will have 1 stitch remaining. Bind this stitch off.

Here is a link to a You Tube video showing the 3 needle cast off.

Turn the boot onto the right side and sew in all the ends.

Add some stuffing inside the boot to make it fill out.

Add a little loop to your hanging ornament and you are finished!

Happy knitting!

Linda
