Butternut Squash Knitting Pattern

Today I have been knitting up butternut squash… It was a suggestion from Caiden, he loves butternut soup:) It’s an easy and simple little pattern I have knitted with the magic loop, but you can easily knit it up with DPNs in the round as well… I think a few of them knitted up and placed in a bowl would look quite fetching and even displayed on an Autumn / Fall nature table would look quite sweet too… We are venturing into Spring here in the southern hemisphere and we have just finished planting these lovely vegetables, so many varieties of pumpkin and squash, I can’t wait to see what they look like…
Materials:
A few grams of handspun butternut squash yarn
Green yarn for the stalk
4mm circular needles or DPNs
Merino fleece
Wool sewing needle
Love:)

Round 47: Knit

Break thread and thread yarn onto a wool needle. Thread the wool needle through the stitches, remove the knitting needles, stuff with fleece, shaping as you go to get the butternut shape. When finish, pull tight and finish off. Sew in the thread at the base of your butternut.

Stem:
Pick up 4 stitches with a double pointed needle and knit an i-cord for an inch or so.
Knit 1 stitch, knit 2 stitches together, keep knitting together until you have one stitch left and bind off.

Measurements when finished:
7 inches tall to the top of the stalk, knitted in a handspun yarn.

And there you have it, a finished knitted butternut!
Enjoy:)

Easter Rabbit Egg Cozy Knitting Pattern Tutorial

Easter will soon be here, I still have so many treasures to make for my little ones, I thought I would share this Easter rabbit egg cozy knitting pattern with you. He knits up so quickly:) I have knitted this one in a bamboo yarn, so soft, but any leftover yarn will be perfect for this small project. You could even add a little nose and eyes with fleece and a felting needle, I just decided to leave this one plain:) He took about half an hour to make this morning while I was busy preparing lunch. When I had a moment, I would quickly pick up my knitting and add a few more rows. I have been looking for an easy crochet pattern for slippers, if anyone knows of one, won’t you please point me in that direction, thank you so much.
What Easter projects are you busy with at the moment?
Enjoy!

Handwork and Spinning

What was the first thing Jen and Caiden did this morning when they woke up? Caiden went to knit and Jen went to spin… Caiden’s knitting is coming along nicely and he is enjoying the process. Jen has always loved spinning, here she is busy finishing off a Yak roving, such exceptionally soft fibre…

Erin mentioned she would like to learn to spin and so her sister showed her how…

Now, later today, Erin’s spinning looks as if it is something she has always known how to do. She has learnt a new skill, I can see how this has empowered her spirit, it is wonderful to see…

Handwork and Sparrows

We have really been enjoying a great amount of outside handwork lately, Erin has been working on her crochet blanket and Jenna has started knitting a pair of rainbow socks, she is very happy as the pattern is for a flat pair knitted on two needles. The colours are really knitting up beautifully:)  Today, while sitting on our quilt outside, both of my girls thanked me for homeschooling them, saying how much they enjoyed learning at home and for teaching them how to knit and crochet… Well… as you can imagine, my heart almost burst! I feel so very blessed that we are on this path, I am filled with such gratitude… when we started homeschooling, we were quite daunted by the idea, but now I know that we are on the journey that was meant for us…

Such an amazing book for knitting, dyeing…

This is my work basket, I bought it at Beaver Creek Farm, a coffee plantation, last year when we visited the coast, I love it, it’s so compact and small but huge inside, if that makes any sense.

While we were outside today Erin put some Merino roving in our Fever tree for the birds…. well within minutes the sparrows had descended and were all taking little pieces of roving for their nests… This was truly magical to watch…

Not the greatest photo I know but I really had to take it in a hurry, these are really fast little birds.

Aaaah but when we looked up later, there in the Sparrow nest, was a cloud of white fleece, this made our hearts burst with joy!
