Look What Arrived Today!

Manos del Uruguay

I loved receiving this parcel! The front gate bell rang, in drove the courier and handed me a box, I opened it and oh my goodness, the joy!!! It was so beautifully wrapped and I just can’t help lifting the lid to look at it each time I walk into the study. The box is on the table, where I think it will stay for a few days and then, I will knit! Ahhh, this Manos del Uruguay yarn is JUST divine, I bought it from here.

Creative Friday

Easter Eggs, knitted

Easter Egg Pattern

Hello everyone,

We have been having major issues with our internet service provider today, most of South Africa is off-line, luckily my hubby has given me his laptop to use, yay! I have never really worked on a laptop before and I quite like it! So without further ado, here is Creative Friday:)

Creative Friday,

Please feel free to post your links to anything you have created and would like to share, it can be a recipe, sewing tutorial, knitting tutorial, felting, crochet, crafts, art, spinning, weaving, working with fibre, photography, poetry…etc…

I have added a Creative Friday button on the sidebar of my blog, please feel free to add it to your blog for Creative Friday and link it to http://www.naturalsuburbia.com/ so others can find this space and share their creativity too:)

1. I have started a Creative Friday Flickr Group where you can post your beautiful photos that you link to each Creative Friday. To join the group, please go here.

2. If you would be so kind as to link back to Natural Suburbia in your blog post that would be lovely:)

Kye and I have been busy with a few nature crafts for Autumn. We found the inspiration for these crafts in a lovely book called Earthwise by Carol Petrash. This is a wonderful book divided up into the different seasons with lovely projects for each season. We used some pine cones, acorns and felt for the cone people and for the Autumn leaf picture, we used some paint, pretty handmade paper and a toothbrush with an oak leaf as our template. He is thoroughly enjoying our Autumn crafting and is so exited to discover what he will be busy with each day.

These are the sweet slippers that I mentioned in yesterday’s post. My mom has been knitting slippers for everyone in our family, they are truly divine! I have never worn such cozy slippers in my life and even our older teenage daughters adore wearing them too! We have adapted a slipper pattern found in the book called The Children’s Year. Each pair my mom makes for us is such a special gift.

What seasonal crafting have you been busy with?

PS I have added a free tutorial over on Ravelry, it’s a tutorial on how to stuff and finish off your knitted animal patterns, if you would like to download it go here.

Cowl Knitting

Green1

Green

I think you could say I’ve become a little obsessed with knitting cowls! They are just so satisfying and easy to knit and I love searching for the perfect luxury yarn in my stash, finding it and casting on. So yes, I have begun yet another cowl, I still don’t have a name for it, so perhaps if you could share a suggestion or two?

I am knitting in Nurturing Fibres Spaghetti Aran yarn called Oxalis, I bought it here, this green is my favourite and it’s a blend of Merino, Mohair and silk…. so soft indeed!!

Yesterday, I ventured out into the garden just as the sun was setting, (my favourite time of day) sat down on the cool lush green grass and knit, it was heavenly.
