A Walk in the Garden

Late this afternoon I went for a walk around our garden to see what I would find. The cool evening air was welcome after such a hot day, 35 degrees C. A friendly Crested Barbet was sitting on our Mulberry tree, I know he was eyeing all the fruit in the garden, he sat just long enough for me to take a few shots of him and then off he flew.

Our Just Joey roses are in bloom, their perfume is heavenly…

I am so excited about our Naartjie trees, this one in particular is covered with blooms, it looks like we will have plenty of fruit this year.

I love where we live, right near to a pan, early evening, hundreds of water birds fly back to this pan for the night…

The Brunfelsia is flowering, so pretty.

Our grape vine has come back to life and I am so looking forward to making wine again next year, it’s a wonderful family activity, I just need to buy the yeasts and then around January we will harvest the grapes and start the process.

This afternoon was lovely, Richard came home from work early, we managed to go out for a short while and have some tea, just the two of us, while my mom looked after the children and then we went grocery shopping. It was so nice to spend time together.

This last week, I found my mountain bike way in the back of the garage, I dusted it off and have started riding again, it feels so good to be out in the sun exercising. I ride with Jen in the afternoons around the pan, we have even ventured right out around the golf course, we have lovely chats and try to ride at least 11 or 12 km every second day. It was really difficult at first but now it’s getting a lot easier, yeah!

PS I have a new African animal pattern that I will be writing about tomorrow on Creative Friday.

The first person (one person) to correctly guess the animal type when leaving a comment in this post will get the pattern emailed to them for free:)

Have a lovely day.

Linda

Your flowers are simply lovely. They sure brightened my dark and gloomy day (it’s been raining here for days now!).

As for what animal… hmmm, either a lion or an elephant perhaps?

I love that I get to see your spring springing while we are going into winter. I love that I don’t know any of the animals or plants in this post…
I think you must be making a water buffalo…

You talk of spring and we here in the midwest United States are looking to fall after such extreme heat (mainly 90s and 100s) of the summer. My guess for the next animal – could it be the camel you blogged about earlier this week?

Always love the pictures of your garden. I am so jealous because I have not only a black thumb, but the rest of my fingers as well.
Could you possibly be working on a lion?

I just love the pictures you share of your beautiful country. It makes me feel like I’ve been on safari some and it’s so interesting to see the natural habitats of your country. I’m guessing for your upcoming animal, a chimpanzee or monkey? I love all your animals and can’t wait to see what you’ve created.

Hi i never realised that South Africa have the same plants and trees as Australia but the Naartjie trees has me wondering and looking forward to seeing the fruit this will have.
Your Brunfelsia is out like mine and we say the Yesterday, today, tomorrow bush, because of the changing colours of the flowers.
I’m just planting our first grape vine but the fruit will be for eating..
The passion fruit vine has gone mad again and every where.
We do need rain badly here in Newmarket Queensland and it seems funny that last year we had to much.

I guess zebra, but now I’ve got to check whether you’ve already done one.

Is it a hippo? Love your blog postings and beautiful knitted animals. Love your whole life ethos too, very inspiring. We’re in the UK but my husband is South African and we’re heading over to SA for Christmas 2012 🙂
    Best wishes,
    Samx

So lovely to see everything in your garden blooming, as here in England, everything is turning yellow and orange. I do still have a single rose though, the same colour as yours. Nice to see the Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow bush again. I remember its lovely fragrance in the evenings . Hope you get lots of naartjies or clemintines as they are called here.
As for your new pattern, I’m guessing a Hippo.

What a beautiful garden. Could it be a giraffe?

My mulberry tree has no crested Barbets and feels the lack deeply. And I have no garden, really. Just wild trees and grass and whatever we throw in that survives. Once we had a bald eagle – or maybe three times over the decades. But the green alone revives me.
