Christmas Star Ornament Pattern

Christmas Star Ornament

Thank you so much for your lovely comments here and on my Facebook group about this little knitted star. I’ve written the pattern out explaining it as best as I can and have included photos to guide you. If you have any questions or if there are any errors, please just let me know in the comments.

Happy knitting!

xx

Linda

Materials:

Scraps of sock yarn

3.5mm circular needles

Sewing needle

Notes:

I have knitted this star in the round with the magic loop technique, dpns 9double pointed needles) would work too but the magic loop is so much more fun!

Kfb: knit into the front and back of a stitch to increase.

Turn Work: Turn work around onto the other side and continue knitting.

Christmas Star Pattern:

Cast on 5 sts.

Join for knitting in the round

Round 1: Knit

Round 2: Kfb into each stitch (10 stitches)

Round 3: Knit

Round 4: Kfb into each stitch (20 stitches)

Round 5: Knit

Round 6: Knit 2, Kfb, knit 2, Kfb, knit 2, Kfb, knit 3, Kfb, knit 3, Kfb, knit 2(25 stitches)

***(This is a note for anyone wanting to make a 6 pointed star instead of this 5 pointed star, in round 6 you would just keep casting on stitches randomly until you have 30 stitches and then you would continue as below)***

To form the 5 points:

*Knit 5, turn work, purl 5, turn work, knit 1, knit 2 tog, knit 2, turn work, purl 4, turn work, knit 1, knit 2 tog, knit 1, turn work, purl 3, turn work, knit 1, knit 2 tog, turn work, purl 2, turn work, knit 2 tog. You will finish with 1 stitch on the right needle.

Point before you pick up stitches

Pick up stitches

Pick up 6 sts with left needle along the side of the first star point and cast off one at a time by knitting 1 stitch onto the right needle and passing the back stitch over the newly knitted stitch in front.
When you are finished casting off all the picked up stitches along the side of the point, cast off one more stitch by knitting one stitch onto the right needle and then passing the back stitch over the front stitch.*

One completed point
Now there is 1 star point, continue as above by knitting the next 5 sts.

Repeat from * to * another 4 times. Remember to cast off that one stitch each time you finish casting off down the side of each star point except for the last star point, you will just bind off the last stitch.

Christmas Star
Block and sew in the ends.
