Kye Swimming

A few years ago when we moved into our home, there was a huge concrete pool in our backyard. We refurbished it with a liner and it converted beautifully. We are in the throws of a massive heat wave at the moment and have been swimming in our pool as much as possible. We wanted to fix the leaf catcher that attaches to the top  side of the pool….

It’s such a tiny area, so small, who knew that if this tiny attachment was unscrewed, the entire liner would detach itself, bubble and begin to float! When Jen ran inside to call me, I was horrified! We phoned our local pool company and they told us the sad news that the entire pool would have to be redone! My heart sank, we couldn’t risk leaving it as that would damage the liner even further, so we had it repaired. The pool had to be drained and relined with the same liner, (thank goodness).

It has been a costly lesson for us but at least on the up side, Kye learn’t to swim in the shallow water while we refilled the pool and that is wonderful! He has been so frightened of venturing into the water and we couldn’t get him to leave the step even after trying swimming lessons. As the pool was filling, over a few days, I got in and encouraged him to try, he did… Joy!

Knitted Gauntlet Gloves, Downton Abbey KAL

Of course there had to be at least one knitting photo in this post;) I joined the Downton Abbey KAL this week, I absolutely adore this series, do you watch it? Oh my! It’s just wonderful, we are between seasons at the moment but it will be starting again at the end of this month and I cannot wait!!! I love the costumes, the characters everything!

I have knitted the first clue and eagerly await the next one. The black yarn is just a provisional cast on with waste yarn. These are gauntlet gloves designed after the gloves that Lady Violet wears. If you would like to join, pop over to the above link and have some knitting fun!! There is also a Ravelry group, details are on the blog post.

Ach – the pool. G’s family had a pool about the size, but it had no liner. The people across the street have an above-ground pool that relies on one. We can’t dig down here – the ground water is too high – which we found when we tried to dig down to lay the foundation for the house thirty five years ago. Lucky that the liner was still in good shape for you, and luckier that Kye grabbed the opportunity to learn. At his age, I wanted to be a dolphin.

Having a pool has its positive and negative – our house had a 50′ x 12′ inground lap pool when we bought it. It was wonderful – we both loved it. Maintenance was hefty.

As for Downton Abbey – love love love it – and also the clothing. Not so much that the upper crust needed a staff to care for their every need.

I had a sleep-in for a while and couldn’t wait to be alone, even though I liked her.

Now I’m alone … and no husband and no pool of my own. The one I miss is my husband.

Have I told you lately that I really enjoy your blog/website?

    Gentle as you go,

If your weather is anything like it has been here, needing to drain and not use the pool would be dreadful (To say nothing of the water and cost!) Thank goodness it’s all over now.
We don’t watch TV here, so I’m a bit late in discovering ‘DA’. However a friend has lent me series 1 and I’m in love. So much to be fascinated with, such attention to detail!
I’m eagerly awaiting the lend of Series 2 😉

Oh no! At least there was a silver lining with the new swimmer. I toy with the idea of that KAL,but I think my plate may be a little full right now. I do love those though.

I too love Downton Abbey – just a thought, couldn’t you watch the shows online on the US television site? They started this past Sunday and they go online a day or two after it’s televised. I just watched it. http://www.pbs.org/
