A Knitting Journey

I received this beautiful skein of yarn from my swap partner for the South African Christmas Swap. I do love the colours SO much, these are my colours, (know what I mean?) When I see them, my heart skips a beat. I have kept this skein safely in its box and haven’t dared take it out until I found a project worthy of it. Do you ever feel this way, that some yarns are just too gorgeous and wonderful to be knitted up into a project? That they should be kept somewhere special for you to look at when needing a yarn fix. That the perfect project has to be found for it or all will be lost? This is how I feel about this particular skein of Hartlam yarn.

After much thought and going back and forth, I decided that it would have to be a cowl. I am busy with the design now, thinking up stitches and pattern techniques in my mind. This yarn reminds me of the beauty that we have here in the Drakensburg mountains, where there are precious forest glades hidden away among valleys. It will be a pattern reflecting this thought process.

The journey of this Forest Glade Cowl has already begun, I have balled the skein and cast on, oh the excitement!

Beautiful yarn. Reminds me of our visits to the beach in Florida. Or a mermaid’s tail. I definitely know what you mean – I have some handspun from a friend that is still waiting for the perfect project. It deserves nothing less! Happy knitting and Happy New Year!

Blue, teal, and turquoise are my colors. I bought a very expensive skein of laceweight 100% cashmere at my lys. Even though I have a pattern for a neckwarmer specifically for this yarn, I just take it out of its plastic bag and hold it for a while, rubbing it against my cheek to feel its softness. If my husband is around, I rub it against his cheek and force him to admit it is beautiful and soft despite his dismay at the price tag.

Your yarn is in my favorite yarn colors too! I see them together, and I can’t resist. I also have the same colors with purple added. I have trouble picking out a pattern because I want to make it memorial, so it takes me forever to decide. Now I’ll have a moment with my stash…….

Oooooh! Those are “my colors” too! I always choose the blues and greens. I look forward to seeing the finished cowl, to see how the colors move… blessings to you today!

Thank you Linda, I thought I was the only one who had yarn just to look at! I have a skein of yarn that I was gifted and I hope one day to be skilled enough to knit with it.
Love your yarn and yes, those colors are so you, just beautiful.
