Sponsor Giveaway from Nurturing Fibres!

Today I would like to introduce you to a lovely new sponsor, Carle’ from Nurturing Fibres, I have known Carle’ for many years and truly admire her ability to dye the most gorgeous yarns imaginable.

Stormy Blues

Carle’s Story….

I learnt to spin and weave about 12 years ago and from there I began to dabble with yarn dyeing. After a few years, I became fascinated with socks and shawls and needed a good source of natural yarns. I struggled to find natural yarns in South Africa and it was almost near impossible to get hand dyed yarns. So, it look me ages to find undyed skeins and dyes, but once I did, I was inspired.  My first skeins were exciting, so I quickly dyed more and my fun business was born. Initially, I dyed yarns in a sink, but this has now changed and I have a dye room and studio on the farm.

Namaqualand

My dye house is the fun room, this is where I clear my thoughts and allow the colours to guide me. I start with 3 colours, Yellow, Red and Blue. Then I  apply the dyes and allow the colours to move into each other and the yarn. Sometimes, I have a very clear sense of what I want to achieve and other times all I know is that I want to  dye yarn. It’s when I have no expectations that I create the wonderfully tonal colours like, ‘London’  available on Betwixt.

London

Fire

When I dye my club yarns, I look to nature for inspiration, select a photo and then interpret it onto the yarn. These colourways have between 40 to 50 yards before the colour repeats, so these are super fun to knit and you never quite know what colour or design the next knitted row will bring. The end result is you knit fast and  finish your project quickly.

Pearl

Today is a very special day for me because I am launching a new club. It is called COLOURS from AFRICA. These 4 new colourways will be available in 2013. I also have a few other clubs that are starting in the next few weeks. I will be blogging about these soon.

Carlé and Linda – what a lovely post and a lovely giveaway.
One of my favourites, for a combination of the lovely yarn and the wonderful inspiration, was Twist Street in the Rain.
I also loved Kelim for the clever yarn dying, and gorgeous knit up results.

  4. Ummrania November 4, 2012 at 9:47 pm #

Oh, this was hard to pick one, I picked three!

    Winter Skies
    What a girl wants

It’s very difficult to choose a favorite of all Carle’s colorways. The one I missed is Twist Street in the Rain. The one I didn’t miss is Fire. Beautiful yarn inspires beautiful knitting. I love it!!!

  9. Rebecca November 4, 2012 at 9:53 pm #

    Seriously, favorite colorway, *singular*?

Fire, because I get two that way.

Also Namaqualand, box of chocolates, truffle even though I didn’t get any, midnight @ roxy’s, autumn mosaic… and though I haven’t seen it in person, the london colorway is gorgeous. I assume I’m forgetting a few.

I think my favourite so far is the Valentines yarn, I have not knitted it yet but the story I plan to tell with it will be very close to my heart.
Carle does more than add colour to yarn, she gives people a voice, through their love on yarn and knitting she support and encourages so many women.

Carle’s yarns are all so beautiful, how can a person choose? Letting it be a mystery sounds good to me.

  72. Lauren bluestorm121 November 5, 2012 at 12:34 pm #

There’s nothing better than going through my yarn ark and pondering what to make with all my NF yarn. At the moment my thoughts are consumed with my brand new pregnancy, so my planned projects have become all about baby. With a few weeks still to go before we find out what the baby is (if it plays along, that is), I’m partial to unisex colours – greys, browns, greens, etc etc. My sister gifted me the Nurturing Fibres Seasonal Sock Club yarn in Basotho Blanket a short while ago as a surprise and I’m absolutely in love with it as well as the contrasting red and grey that went along with it.

  73. Andrea from ziezo November 5, 2012 at 1:51 pm #

Gorgeous colourways all over! I would go for ‘Waterlillies’ (Spaghetti Aran), but in case I win, I would be surprised by the first mystery çlub choice. . .

Lovely giveaway! I love the deep, rich greens of Namaqualand, Forest Glade and the like (especially in Supertwist Sock).

My favourite was the fire colour way, although I never had any myself, I just loved the projects that the other group members made!

Jellybean is coming up a close second at the moment though!

Blues and greens call to me, but I keep buying pinks. Go figure! Favorites right now are the Sapphire Kidsilk and Wild Grasses Sock.

Oh my goodness, I love the Savanah Sun sock wool! It’s like a burst of sunshine in the darker days of November. Also reminds me of my daughter’s name, Harmony, which always seemed like a bright, beautiful name : )

Just another observation – LOVE the colour-way names. Really enjoyed reading through them!

I absolutely love all the colors in the Supertwist Sock Yarn. I am in a phase of knitting shawls, wraps, and carves with sock yarn! What a great collection!
