Our Days, Our Journey…

My mom brought these beautiful Wild Ginger blooms for me today, they are so beautiful and really tell me that Spring is well on it’s way. It’s hard to believe that we were having snow here 2 weeks ago. Today the temperature is 27 degrees C! I am so thrilled with the warmer weather!

Kye was busy drawing with his Stockmar crayons while I was cleaning in the kitchen this morning. I love these crayons, their vibrant colours and because they are made from beeswax.

Richard took this photo of me over the weekend, it was quite cold so we had a fire going and I, of course never miss an opportunity to knit near a fire…

The violets are flowering all over our garden, they are so sweet…

Today I received the most amazing gift for our garden!! A truck load of horse manure!! This is like gold for our compost bins and flowerbeds. I am so greatful, tomorrow we will move most of it into the compost heap in the veggie garden. I am going to plant a few pumpkin and watermelon seeds directly into the heap and see what happens.

These nectarine blossoms are so beautiful, I can’t wait for our fruit to start growing!

There are quite a few changes happening for my mom, she has been so brave and strong since my dad had his stroke. He is in intensive care at the moment but will soon be returning home and will need 24 hour care from carers there. He is doing so much better, moving his left side and speaking clearly, he cannot wait to go home and we can’t wait for him to be home with my mom, they are both missing one another so much! I am very greatful for all the kindness that so many of you have shown with your kind words, thoughts and prayers, we all appreciate you so much, thank you.

PS I’m having a special in my Etsy pattern shop . You can buy any 5 patterns for $15 instead of $20 while stocks last 🙂  xo xo

What wonderful news about your dad, Linda, i can only imagine how much your dad’s being missed by your mom and also by his home and all that it contains. Soon to be back in the warmth of his hearth, he will improve as time passes under your mom’s awesome ministrations and the help of capable care providers.

The ginger blossoms can almost be smelled they are so vibrant-like beeswax crayons.

Happy news about your dad. What a blessing that they have such a marriage that they NEED to be together. I love that kind of love.
We got a pile of cow barn manure one year after our big county wide fair and we didn’t even need to plant the pumpkin/squash seeds, they just grew on their own…prolifically!
    Happy springing of Spring!

      It is a wonderful love…
I can’t wait to get busy with this manure and see what grows in it!
      Kind regards
      Linda

It’s good to hear that your Dad is steadily getting better :0)

I love seeing your garden pictures – so very different from here at times! I’d never seen ginger flowers (all I see of ginger is the root).

    • Linda August 22, 2012 at 7:49 am #

      Thanks Nikki,

I love this Ginger plant, it is different to the usual ginger, this one is used to spray on plants to keep pests away and if you plant it near your windows, it will also discourage mosquitoes from flying around and into your home.

      Take care

      Linda

Nice to catch up with you! Amazing to see blossoms…ours were all killed by a late frost so very little fruit this year from our own trees (although our grapes look amazing!) Our summer is just starting to cool off and I welcome Spring. My son saw the picture of you and said, “Who’s that?” I said, “A friend who knits…she lives in South Africa!” Blogworld is a small world.

Gorgeous blooms, and the excitement of spring! Starting one’s garden after the winter season is a joy for the soul! It is curious to see that your nectarine blooms are quiet similar to out apple trees in the backyard! Good to hear that your Dad is making progress, prayers for him and your family will continue to come from my family to yours. Love and Blessings, Thea

    • Linda August 22, 2012 at 8:02 am #

      Dear Thea,
I love the first spring fruit tree blossoms, then I know Spring is on its way. You are right, the nectarine blossoms are very similar to those of apples.

      Thank you for your prayers.

      Warmly

      Linda

Gday. Hope all are doing well…from Tasmania.
I did notice your violas had a mesh underneath them. That is a fabulous idea…I would love that for my garden to keep the rabbits, my chooks and the little blackbirds from digging up my plants…They love dirt as much as I do…Cheers, keep knitting love your blog. Tamsin.

    • Linda August 22, 2012 at 8:04 am #

Hello Tamsin from Tasmania, you live in such a beautiful part of the world, at one stage we were seriously thinking about moving there.

The mesh is wonderful to keep our chickens from scratching every last grain of sand out of the barrels:) and it works:)

Thank you for your kind words,

      Linda

That’s great news about your dad. I love all your pictures – you look so cozy in front of the fire knitting. And getting a truck load of horse manure is like winning the lottery! We are fortunate to have a neighbor with horses that allows us to take manure by the truckload. She found cantaloupe and watermelon volunteers growing in one of her manure piles this spring and said they were the best melons she ever ate!

  13. Janet R August 22, 2012 at 4:44 pm #

How wonderful is the promise of spring and summer with blooms… and manure! 😀
The seasons changing mirrors the hope of your dad’s healing too!
Blessings to you and your family!

Hi Linda, Lovely photos, the weather here in Victoria (Australia) is warming up too, it’s exciting isn’t it, full of promise! I’m so glad to hear your dad is progressing, I was thinking about him only this morning. Enjoy the sunshine, xxBrenda

Oh wow, your fireside picture is getting me ready for Fall! We’ve had much cooler weather here lately (unseasonably so, for August), and I can’t wait to bring the kids into Fall again. Maybe I’ll get to pick up my needles again…

I am laughing – how I could bless your garden if only we weren’t half a world away from one another. I could keep you hip deep in that commodity and your plants would be ten feet high! All for free. I am so glad to hear that your dad will be going home – how strange to think how one small moment can send our lives off in a completely not-scheduled direction – change it forever sometimes. I love these times when we can take things for granted – these long periods of freedom and health that so quickly can be gone. But he will fight and win back his life – and be able to bless your children’s lives for years to come. Your mother will be complete again –
