The Flamingos Have Arrived

The Flamingos have arrived at our pan down the road. They are on their way to their breeding grounds and have just stopping over here for a brief period. They are so majestic, I just had to share them here…

I really appreciate this water pan we have so close to our home, it is a beautiful area, bustling with plenty of bird life, feral cats and lovely plant species. We live one street up from the houses you see in this photo above and it takes us about 10 minutes to walk down in the afternoons. The distance around is 2.5 km and this makes for a good walk.

I remember one evening a few years ago, Richard and I were sitting outside on the veranda. There was a full moon, we were just talking and then the next minute there was a strange ‘whooshing’ sound above us. We both looked up and were amazed by what we saw… Hundreds of flamingos were flying overhead, they were flying to our pan down the road. I will never forget that sight…

Have a wonderful week.
Linda

That did it…I want to move where you live! Is there any acreage for sale close by? I think it would be perfect to live in a place where the flamingos live too. Are Americans accepted, I’m pretty nice and easy to get along with?

Oh Tracey, Yes! Come and live here, there is plenty of land for sale and it’s beautiful AND we love Americans!!

I love our walks, there are always different species of birds nearby and the warmth of the afternoon sun setting is lovely.

Wonderful pictures – as Donna said, thanks for sharing the flamingo love, I set out on my world travels to see flamingos… and you just have to walk down the road – very jealous. Do you have any flamingo inspired crafts? All I have managed so far is a little embroidered one!

Not yet Sandy, but I think I might make some, perhaps a knitted flamingo, but then he has really long, thin legs. Perhaps I can do that and just add something to make him stand?
      Let’s see.
      Thanks for visiting here.

Oh, what a lovely and amazing sight that would have been! Your pictures are absolutely breath taking! Thank you so much for taking the time to share them with us!!!

Pan, Tank, Pond ….. it amazes me at how many different terms there are for these small bodies of water. I had never heard them called anything other than a POND until about a year ago.

Oh, and I am with Tracey… everything I have seen posted on here makes your living area look absolutely wonderful, terrific and relaxing.

That is absolutely amazing. We have geese and hawks, but flamingos? I can’t imagine. How close are you to the big animals?

    • Linda June 5, 2012 at 8:29 am #

      Hi Barb,
The big animals are on game farms about one hour’s drive away from us.

What an amazing place to live. Our family was just mesmerized by the flamingoes at the zoo. It doesn’t even compare.
