Collecting seeds

Today has been a lovely day of reflection, the last day of the year. Can you believe tomorrow will be January? Are you ready for January? I’m not sure if I am ready (for January…) I have started breathing it in, thinking about it, about everything that needs to be done and all the new and exciting things we will learn next year.

I have been spending more time out in the garden, watching the birds and connecting with nature. The veggie garden has taken on a life of its own. How amazing that two pumpkin seeds can grow vines that have enveloped our two largest veggie beds, they have even grown up the shade net to the top of the fence.

I have also been thinking how grateful I am and I find that gratitude is something that makes me feel grounded and keeps my attention focused on the important things in our life.

I am grateful for:

  • A wonderful and supportive husband, who drove me to a nursery yesterday to buy flowers only to discover it closed, and simply drove all the way to another one, so that I would be able to plant some colour in our front garden, because he knew that this would make me happy…
  • Thunderstorms that arrive each afternoon during our summer months…
  • Friends that are kind and share their stories with me and listen to mine…
  • Our children who have so much love in their hearts and when they spot an injured bird along the side of the road, bring it home and nurse it back to health…
  • All the experiences in my life, good and some hard that make me the person I am today…
  • The simple things in life, the things that are always there and how different life would be without them…
  • Goodness, I am grateful for this space where I can write my thoughts about our journey…

Wishing you the most wonderful 2012, that your dreams will come true and that love will always be near you.
Linda

A lovely entry. And funny how, here on the other side of the mirror, you are counted as a blessing – two sides and only one blessing necessary to connect them. I love looking around my yard in May when Spring is in its strength and the green is deep and not strained by our dry summer heat. Your yard has that feeling of burgeoning – and your children are also a reflection of it. My husband would do that, too. And that is an amazing thing, all to their credit. Well, in your case, probably not all. I am not as substantial a spirit as you are. May this year bring peace, health, safety along with joy to you and yours, and if such a thing could reasonably be wished – may they be yours forever.

Your photos made me think of summer. Warm and green.

Right now things are cold, grey, and sleeping. The compost pile is doing it’s thing getting ready for spring planting, the chickens are scratching looking for anything they can grub up. It’s a time for being indoors with each other playing games, reading, and just being together. As much as I long for the warmer days of summer…… I enjoy winter and how it brings us closer together as we are not so spread out out of doors……..

I found some fun projects on the internet that I will be doing with The Native’s soon in anticipation for spring planting using empty toilet paper rolls and toilet paper to make seed strips. 🙂

Happy New Year Linda! This is such a lovely post. Photos and words!
