Bunny Rabbit Finger Puppet for Storytelling, Pattern Tutorial

I have always wanted to make finger puppets, so today was the day! Kye is thrilled to bits and has been talking to and playing with his little rabbit finger puppet ever since I finished knitting him. I am going to make a whole bunch of different ones for when I read stories to him. Oh the excitement!
So here is the pattern for one little bunny rabbit finger puppet:)

Materials:
Any left over yarn in rabbit colours
4mm needles
Wool sewing needle
Scissors
Black and pink fleece for felting
Felting needle

Pattern:
Cast on 10 stitches and knit 10 rows in stocking stitch.
Row 11: Knit and increase one stitch either side of the two middle stitches. (To increase, I simply lift up a stitch from the row below, put it on the left needle and knit into the back of this stitch)
Row 12: Purl
Row 13: Knit and increase one stitch either side of the two middle stitches.
Row 14: Purl
Row 15: Knit and increase one stitch either side of the two middle stitches.
Row 16: Purl
Row 17: Knit row and decrease one stitch either side of the two middle stitches.
Row 18: Purl
Row 19: Knit row and decrease one stitch either side of the two middle stitches.
Row 20: Purl
Row 21: Knit row and decrease one stitch either side of the two middle stitches.
Row 22: Purl
Row 23: Knit 1 stitch, knit 2 stitches together across the row.

Break a long piece of yarn, thread with a wool needle and and thread through the stitches and pull tight. Sew up right sides together, then turn inside out so your bunny is on the right side.

Ears Pattern:
Cast on 4 stitches.
Knit 9 rows in garter stitch.
Keep knitting the 2nd and 3rd stitches together until 1 stitch remains
Bind off

Sew on the ears.

Needle felt on the black eyes and pink nose.

Enjoy! 🙂

So sweet & tiny. A good project to use up bits and pieces of leftover yarn. I think I see many finger puppets in our future.

I love this rabbit! I really should make some handmade finger puppets. I have the Peruvian ones in my farm store but to have some handmade ones for my kids and nieces would be wonderful. A fellow Alpaca breeder that lives locally wrote a few stories about one of her Alpacas and she sells the books with finger puppets that match the stories which include tons of barnyard friends. My children loved when I would read this stories and they could act out the characters.
