My neighbour Sue and I have started knitting Shalom Cardigans and I thought it would be a lovely idea if I opened this project up here to see if anyone would like to cast on with us and knit along. I really love this pattern, it is so beautiful and quite a quick knit too. How nice it would be if there were a few of us from all over the world knitting the same project at the same time:) The pattern is a free pattern and it can be found on Meghan’s blog called Involving the Senses on her right hand sidebar. If you do a search on Ravelry, you will also find it there and you will be able to see how many of these cardigans have been knitted and the pattern notes that people have made etc… I knitted my first Shalom cardigan last year and it is wonderful, I added long sleeves by picking up stitches around the armholes. You can see it here. The one I have just cast on is being knitted in a handspun natural beige Merino wool.
If you feel you would like to join in, just leave a comment and I will add your blog link in this blog post:) This button will be added to my sidebar and you can also add it to yours if you wish:) This way we can pop over to one another’s blogs by just clicking on their links to see their progress and be inspired by visiting new blogs too. I will be posting my Shalom Cardigan progress each Wednesday.
I have started a new thread on my Mamma4earth Ravelry page for all those on Ravelry who would like to discuss their Shalom progress and post photos etc…

arg! the shalom has been in my to do list FOREVER. but i have a dress i have to get done by july (that has not been started yet) hmmm do i dare attempt both at the same time?
aww heck I’m in! if i don’t do it with people (even if they are clear across the world) i’ll never do it!
are you going to modify the cardi? i really want to do sleeves and full buttons but i don’t think i am skilled enough….
I’ll post on wednesday about casting on(www.andababy.blogspot.com)
Welcome Regina! How exciting you are joining in:) I am looking forward to your Wednesday post.
I am going to modify the cardi, I have added more sitches for a slightly larger fit and I am adding 3 buttons instead of 1. Mine will be straight down with no shaping and long tapered sleeves. I will post more on Wednesday.
Warmly
Linda
You know, I just had the funniest moment. I read the word “Shalom” and saw the shot at the top, and thought, “Wow – that looks SO like an Egyptian royal collar!!” And it all got mixed up with Easter in my head. When I came back around to knitting a sweater, I was really confused. I hope that’s not just old age settling in –
I’m not going to join. I have lions to do, and puppies. But I’ll watch and cheer you on.
This is a great idea — and I love the sweater — but it’s warming up here in the U.S., and it’ll be too warm to wear a bulky-weight sweater (even with short sleeves!) by the time I’m done knitting it. Maybe I’ll tackle it late in winter for next spring.
I look forward to watching your progress each Wednesday.

Hi! I want to join-=) I liked this sweater when you posted your completed one, put in on my to do list…and then I saw this post, and have been wanting a reason to slow down and get my knit on…Now to pick out yarn! Yay! I actually haven’t knit a whole sweater for myself…just my kiddos, so I am excited! Happy knitting! See you soon=)
my blog is simplybeautifulsundays.blogspot.com

Hi! I would like to join in – this sweater pattern has been on my list for a long time – It’s so pretty! OK, I’ve rounded up my yarn, and I’m ready to go 🙂

Lovely idea, I have already done one and love it. Good luck to all you Shalom knitters. If my modifications can help anyone then please use them. You can find them here:http://ravel.me/frockfarie/iqkxz
I love sitting down and reading your blog it leaves me feeling so very peaceful and your beautiful Shalom has inspired me to give it a try. I have only ever knit accesories never clothing so although I dont have a blog I will join in. I am making one for my sister first as she is the size the sweater is written for, if I am successful I will make one for myself hopefully using someones great mods. Thank you again for sharing such an inspiring blog.
Melissa.
Well, how exciting. I fell in love with this pattern quite some time ago. I bought the yarn (Eco Wool) but just haven’t started it. Being part of this wonderful worldwide group is certainly incentive enough. I have the pattern saved and many modifications of it as well, in my ravelry favorites. Off to look them over, get the yarn from hiding and get started. I don’t have a blog but am kennedy444 on ravelry. Thanks for including me 😉 —Kim
I find this very nice vest

I have size L: (

Hi Gea:)

I wish I had *time* to join in – I love that cardigan & it is on my list of “to-do” knitting before autumn arrives here. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone’s progress, though! xoxo
A warm welcome to Kim, Gea and Melissa!
I would love to KAL with you, but don’t have any yarn. What thickness yarn are you knitting with?? I only have a small Indian shop that sells yarn here in Dundee. Would you have any recommendations as to what I could try and buy?
Rene’, I would love for you to KAL with us. I am knitting in a merino single handspun, don’t know if you would like to knit in something like that? I am knitting on a 5mm needle, you would just have to check your gague as it is a handspun.
Hi to all!
I would like to join your Shalom KAL; however,I don’t have a blog link. Can you add me by way of my email? pjstitches2002@yahoo.com
I really like the yoke that you have shown.
pj in soggy Missouri, USA
Welcome PJ! Do you have a Ravelry page I could link to instead of an email address?
Lovely idea, ish I knitted!
ohhh, lovely cardie, i have very similar wool to the your natural colour, might have to give this a go, thanks!
Would it be easier (or even possible) to start a naturalsuburbia group for this kal on ravelry? Just a thought.
Thanks again for your wonderful blog. It always makes me wish I lived near you and could come over for tea!
Dear Kim,
I have added the Shalom thread to my Mamma4earth Ravelry Group:)

Welcome Nicole and Michelle!:)
I would love to join in with all of you. I saw this last week and cast on to start making something special for the winter :). Thanks for the inspiration.
Welcome dear Heather:)
Just saw this on Heather’s blog and I think I’d like to join y’all!
I think I’m going to join in! It looks like a great beginner project into clothes. Plus I’ve seen different styles of it on ravelry and how easy it was to add a little spice to the shalom.
Welcome Mamaacorn and Faerie-Dancer:)
Hi Linda! I’ll be joining you. Casting on right now!
Is it too late to join? I started my first Shalom last week, but I have accomplished far more unravelling than knitting! I would love to knit along with you all, and would especially appreciate some guidance in adding additional button holes… I thought I was doing it right but it threw off my ribbing. I’ll be ripping out more rows tonight…
Welcome Amanda!
Is it too late to join in?
Greetings from Austria 😉
maria
