On Friday, the hatchery called us to let us know that our day old chicks were ready for collection! So exciting… as you can imagine. We all jumped in the car and drove off to fetch them. They are the sweetest little fluffy creatures you have ever seen. It is cooling down here at the moment, so we have made a special place for them inside until they are a little bigger. Today, we took them out for the first time. It has been raining for a few days, but today the clouds cleared and we took them out to enjoy the sunshine. As soon as the sun touched their feathers, they spread themselves out and suntanned, so sweet, we could hardly believe it. They have never seen how to do this, but their instinct was so strong, it was lovely to watch…
Of course they all have names already and each child has chosen 2 to look after…

Here is a little chicken pattern for you to knit:)

Mais – how do you tell them apart? I know you can, but looking at the pictures, they all look uniformly cute and fluffy.
They are just too sweet Linda!!! You are going to have your hands quite full. One of my chicks seems a bit under the weather, and I am a bit worried about her. i don’t know if it’s because of all the rain. They have a lovely HUGE kennel to take refuge in, but insist on roosting on the roof in all weathers!
Linda! I check your space as often as possible with my internet being down…blah! Loved seeing these little chicks…ours are due on May 4 and we’re so excited. They so quickly turn into goofy little teenaged chicks…enjoy their sweet, chubby fluffiness while you can! Hope to be back online regularly soon…
We just got our six a couple of days ago! They are so cute!!!
So cute…The only livestock we have is bees. They are cute, too, but we didn’t name them. 🙂
ooooh i just love baby chooks! so so cute! great shots. love the pair.
So sweet Linda! We have a couple of hens here that have hatched their own chicks and they are the cutest things! Perfect for Easter. Now we are crossing our fingers that some of our bantam duck eggs will hatch!

So Cute….Just in time for easter although it isn’t spring. They are late chicks aren’t they? I have had a clutch of guinea fowl eggs waiting for a broody hen but I fear I have missed the boat until closer to spring now. The dang things are prolific layers if you can find the eggs! Luckily most are layed in the pen but I do find the odd one on the lawn….
What sort of chickens are they?
Hi Jenni,
I would love to have some guineas, but I worry about them flying away… These little chooks are called Hy-Lines and are wonderful egg layers.

Oh you are making me so excited to get my own chicks! Now, if the weather and my health would just cooperate so I can build their little coop!!!
Too cute! I am so very jealous…one day we will have some again too, til then make sure you post plenty of pictures of yours!
They are so cute. What did you name them? Enjoy your new little feathered friends.
