2nd Annual Knitting and Crochet Blog Week – Day 1 – A Tale of Two Yarns 2KCBWDAY1

Hello friends, as you can see, I am taking part in the 2nd annual Knitting and Crochet Blog Week that starts today. I think this is going to be a fun experience! If you would like to take part, just pop over to Ravelry, specifically The Blog Hub Group and sign up:)
So for today’s post, this is what we are all going to post about:

Part of any fibre enthusiast’s hobby is an appreciation of yarn. Choose two yarns that you have either used, are in your stash or which you yearn after and capture what it is you love or loathe about them.

Ok, the first yarn that I am going to write about is called Fyberspates Nef Sock Yarn, this is the most exceptionally soft yarn consisting of  70% baby alpaca, 20% silk, 10% cashmere. I love it! I am going to hand paint some of it and make socks for our family for winter, I imagine a hat or scarf or even gloves would just feel divine in this yarn. Amazing!!

The second yarn that I am going to mention is this Icelandic wool that I bought quite a while ago, I do like the colour but it is very scratchy on the skin so I am not sure what I will make with it, I was origionally going to knit a hat in it but I think it will be more suited to a knitted handbag instead.

Do you have a favourite yarn that you love to work with?

Looking forward to visiting everyones blogs!
Happy Monday:)
xo

The first yarn is totally yummy!

The second one…yes, I can see you wanting a bag or something that wouldn’t touch the skin.

My favorite yarn…the obvious answer would be Alpaca but I recently spun a polyworth/alpaca blend that is delicious and I plan to knit a shawl out of it.

Too bad you do not intend to use the Icelandic wool for some clothing, it is so warm and wonderful! Try washing it with a bit of balsam (yes, the one for the hair), it will make it softer, but keep it´s isolating properties.

Merino wool is my yarn of choice to knit with. My favourite used to be Berroco Pure Merino, but I’ve discovered Rowan Cocoon, and I have to say that one is my favourite. Merino wool and mohair.

Oooh, that baby alpaca silk yarn looks so silky smooth! As for my favorite yarn, that’s tough, right now I am enjoying some handmade hand painted goodness from friends.

Well, pure wool is always harsh on skin, but worm. It would be good for a coat.

One of these days, I’m going to settle down and learn to hand paint. I love the sound of it. I’ve never used alpaca. Such a neophyte.
