For the last few days, I don’t quite know why… but I have the had the tremendous urge to sew. I am a knitter and haven’t really sewn since I was in high school and that was a while ago, trust me! But lately I have been pulling out my sewing books and really enjoying paging through the projects. Now, today, the need is great, I can’t ignore it anymore, so I went and found the sewing machine, fabric and even a pattern that I THINK I will enjoy making only to discover that I cannot for the life of me find my dressmakers tracing paper. Quite a necessary item to have when sewing, Ahem… Well that didn’t stop me, I just went around the corner to our local fabric shop, bought some and now I am all set, I think. It has been a while, so I hope everything comes flooding back to me… but Oh… I am so keen to get going with this new project and now tonight, as soon as everyone is fast asleep, I will venture into my studio and begin! (she says with glee:)…
The stash…
The project from Weekend Sewing, by Heather Ross… what a lovely book…
This is the fabric I have chosen, pure cotton with a white background and tiny blue little leaves… wish me luck:)

Yay! I have also been wanting to sew! However, my sewing room is a complete mess due to newborn baby & guests (who use the sewing room as a guest room), so I’ll have to wait a little! Can’t wait to see how your project goes. I have that book but haven’t made anything from it yet.
Linda,
I know this feeling well! And there’s such a feeling of possibility once all the Christmas crafting is done! I’m in a bit of a knitting slump: so much yarn, but no motivation to make anything. Have turned my creative soul to writing and it’s interesting to craft with words rather than with fabric or yarn. I love that book too…so many great patterns! I’m sure you’ll share photos of your finished top as soon as it’s done…can’t wait. And good luck to you!
Funny, isn’t it, how the fit will take you? Like suddenly having a need to drink milk. Well, have fun with the sewing – I’ve done a ton of clothes, and even made up patterns. But generally, I’d rather make quilts, because they don’t have to fit. Just bought my daughter a dress form. I think having a thing like that might make everything more fun. Well – good luck. That pattern shouldn’t take you long at all!
I love that shot of your fabric stash…I am always a sucker for floral fabrics. I also love the fabric with the little leaves and the pattern you’re going to make with it…can’t wait to see the end results!

good for you! go with the calling.
Before you trace and cut out and sew, google the book. There is a list of errata and other people have made suggestions on how to get a better fit. Personally, I made it longer and had to take it in the side quite a bit (twice) so it didn’t feel so big/wide. And I sewed up the front slit a bit more than suggested.
I really do like it. I even have fabric picked out for the next one. hmm, maybe this will be my next sewing binge. just for me.
good luck and happy sewing
What a wonderful stash of fabric! I have been having the sewing itch as well, but I am not a sewer. However it is never to late to learn is it?! I love the weekend sewing book. I made the lounge pants for a Christmas gift. And the shirt is on my wish (to do) list, I even have the fabric. Enjoy your sewing time, I’m sure it will all come flooding back, just like riding a bike.
Blessings, Elizabeth
I love your fabric stash, they would make a beautiful quilt! but the shirt looks gorgeous esp in the fabric you have, a great summer top!
Looks like fun, Linda! Good luck on your new endeavor ^_^

I love the fabric youve chosen, it will be a beautiful shirt
Oh, Linda …. I am sure it’s going to be beautiful! I love “weekend sewing” … I got it as a gift. The diagram and illustrations are wonderful, it definitely makes figuring things out for a still new sewer like me much easier. Much better than figuring out paragraphs of semi-cryptic text. ~pamela
Luck is being sent your way!
Go for it :0)
Isn’t it funny how we get the urge to do a certain craft? That happened to me recently with embroidery. The blouse looks lovely and I like the fabric you selected. It will look great on you.
