Our First Rains of Spring…

I am so happy that Spring is almost here! We had our first storm this week and it was wonderful. Just as we had almost finished spreading our homemade compost on our grass, the rain came down 🙂

This photo was taken from our back gaden on Thursday, we had a wonderful storm…

Before the storm, Jenna was spreading our homemade compost on our back garden lawn to encourage thick, green grass to sprout after our dry winter, and then the rain clouds gathered and it was perfect timing! In the background you can see a large green water tank, this tank holds 10 thousand litres of water from our borehole and this is wonderful for watering our garden and veggies through winter.

This is the section of our compost heap where we found beautiful rich crumbly compost that just smelled of the earth, wonderful… We take all the straw from our chicken coop, rabbit droppings, veggie scraps, prunings and add these to our heap. When I have Comfrey growing I add Comfrey leaves as an activator for the heap and it helps the heap to rot down quite well.

We are very excited to see these Rameron Pigeons in our garden, they have been gone from the area for ages and now they seem to be returning. They are really beautiful and big with bright yellow feet, beaks and rings around their eyes.

Here is an updated photo of Charlie, he has grown larger than our other cat Olive and is so sweet!

We have got so many lemons on our lemon trees, so Erin and Kye decided to make lemonade. Just squeeze as many lemons as you have avaliable, add Xylitol to sweeten and a handful of mint leaves. Mix well and you have a refreshing lemon drink 🙂

My sweet boy… (He was the lemonade mixer)…

That storm must have been wonderful. I adore rain! Thanks for the photo of the Rameron Pigeon. I’ve never heard of those and am always interested in new birds (and old ones :o) Love those bright yellow feet.

Charlie is GORGEOUS. What a beautiful face he has.

You must certainly be excited to have a visit from Spring! Our entire spring was spent making home made lemonade too! Your photos of your little ones stirring and squeezing the lemons brought back memories : ) We have since moved on to ice tea! Enjoy these warmer days!

It rained here all last night, too, and is still raining off and on this morning…my favorite type of weather.

I love that we both have pigeons at our homes. Ours look much different than yours, but pigeons just the same.

So fun to be transported to another part of the world through blogging…
